Job Summary: 

The Down Trade Sales Manager will develop and work with the van sales team to ensure that the required sales objectives, targets, and customer service levels are achieved.  The incumbent will also be responsible for effective route management/development to facilitate the Company’s distribution objectives.

 

Job Description : 

  • Work to achieve monthly sales, targets, and area quotas consistent with the planned sales and marketing objectives.
  • Manage the profitability of each van in line with company objectives.
  • Contribute towards the development and implementation of sales strategies and plans; monitoring area performance to ensure that the desired levels are achieved. Monitoring closely Sales Routes and consistency of visits.
  • Manage and evaluate the effectiveness of Vans in order to achieve optimal sales and service levels (including coaching, training, mentorship, motivation, reward/disciplinary action).
  • Build superior customer relationships, by ensuring consistency of visits and excellence in service.
  • Achieve maximum trade penetration at the account/ route/ area levels.
  • Translate monthly quotas into daily sales targets for each Van and provide assistance in the delivery of these targets.
  • Provide technical advice, guidance, and on-the-job training for the Van Sales Reps (and Loaders) in the planning and execution of sales, merchandising of products, and the preparation of cash/credit/ receipt documents in accordance with the approved procedures.
  • Develop and motivate subordinate personnel so as to create and maintain effective levels of productivity.
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct customer visits to ensure the effectiveness of services rendered by sales distributors and to identify, investigate and initiate corrective action on issues adversely impacting sales performance (including progressive disciplinary actions when necessary).
  • Investigate and respond to market or customer demands, complaints, or problems by providing mutually effective solutions thereby maintaining the desired level of client satisfaction.
  • Ensure the maintenance of established codes of discipline and conduct by subordinate personnel.
  • Provide feedback to the Sales Management unit about occurrences and trends in the trade, information regarding the competition, etc.
  • Work closely with Van Sales Supervisors and assign relief drivers and/or loaders (as necessary) to ensure that all trucks meet the required schedule.
  • Prepare and submit operational reports in accordance with established schedules in a timely manner.
  • Continuously prospect for new customers, channels, and opportunities for increased sales.
  • Perform any other related duties as required by the job function.

 

Education and Experience Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in management/Marketing or a combination of relevant training and experience in the same or equivalent capacity.
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and resourcefully.
  • Good analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, Well-organized and attentive to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to effectively manage staff and processes.
  • Be customer focused, possess excellent interpersonal skills and be capable of working in a highly competitive environment.
  • Do you have a minimum of 8 years in FMCG Sales with a minimum of 3 years Management experience.
