The Ink Technician is responsible for all activities related to the preparation, handling, and management of inks used in the printing process.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Press Room

  • Job Bag Review: Read and understand information contained in job bags.
  • Accessory Preparation: Ensure all required accessories (pans, doctor blade chambers, and anilox) are prepared and issued for the next job.
  • Press Wash-Up: Assist in wash-up of the press by draining down inks, wiping anilox, scraping pans, and setting up cleaned parts on the press.
  • Start-Up and Shut-Down Assistance: Assist with morning start-up of presses and shut down on the 2 – 10 pm shift.
  • Documentation: Complete all necessary documentation on a daily basis.

 

Wash-Up

  • Accessory Cleaning: Wash, clean, and prepare all accessories associated with the printing process immediately after removal from the press.
  • Anilox Cleaning: Clean anilox rolls as per established procedures and complete required documentation promptly.
  • Discrepancy Reporting: Report any discrepancies regarding these parts immediately to the supervisor.

 

Inks

  • Ink Issuance: Issue required inks to relevant production presses as per the production schedule, if required.
  • Mixing Coatings: Mix and issue coatings (Lamal, Anti-Stat, Adcote, etc.) if required.
  • Solvent Recording: Record and issue solvents to press as necessary.
  • Ink Returns: Receive, verify, and document all return inks post-production and coordinate their return to the ink room.
  • Support: Assist and support Ink Technician II as required.

Degree/Diploma and major if applicable:      

  • Technical certification or diploma in printing or a related field is preferred.

Required hands-on, technical or other types of training to perform the job:

  • Ability to wear Personal Protection Equipment in a noisy and fast-paced environment.
  • Working with a variety of chemicals and chemistry including UV light curing system.
  • Good Mathematics skills
  • Must be willing to work on a shift basis and overtime.
  • Ability to frequently lift 50+ lbs
  • Stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be willing to work within strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
