The successful candidate will ensure the protection of computing assets by establishing and enforcing system access controls and maintaining disaster preparedness.

The Barbados Light & Power Company Limited (BLPC) is seeking applications from suitably qualified professionals to fill the position of IT Security Analyst. Reporting to the Senior IT Security Administrator, the successful candidate will ensure the protection of computing assets by establishing and enforcing system access controls, and maintaining disaster preparedness.

 

The successful incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of the information security program to create information security awareness and a security conscious culture, and be required to:

 

  • Establish system controls by developing framework for controls and levels of access; recommending improvements.
  • Monitor compliance with the security policies and attendant standards by applying common security controls.
  • Collaborate with staff, risk management personnel, and facilities, to implement, maintain, and audit cost efficient and effective security programs to satisfy requirements.
  • Identify pressing security vulnerabilities for immediate remedial action.
  • Pursue electronic security violations to closure to ensure resolution, and where possible, avoidance of similar security breaches in the future.
  • Develop security awareness by providing orientation, educational programs, and on-going communication.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments in the information security field.
  • Maintain all information systems in a fully functional, but secure mode.
  • Monitor logs created by the computer and network access control systems to detect attempts at unauthorized use, and inform management.
  • Perform other duties, as required.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technology field.
  • CISSP, CISM or similar certification.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ practical on-the-job experience is required.

 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience managing security on all levels of hardware platforms, wide area and local area networks, various applications, and the Internet.
  • Knowledge and experience with IT general controls, business continuity planning, auditing, and compliance and risk management.
  • Knowledge of the best practices of security measures and controls, and up-to-date on the latest risks and counter measures in IT security.
  • Knowledge of the compliance and legal requirements for data confidentiality and integrity.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate security-related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence in the security team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
