INFORMATION & LEGAL RESOURCES OFFICER – KINGSTON, JAMAICA
The incumbent is responsible for co-ordinating, maintaining, digitizing and administering an up-to-date reference and research library of printed and electronic information, possessing a combination of legal research skills, knowledge of legal databases, and a strong understanding of legal principles.
Minimum Requirements (Please read carefully before applying):
- At least 3-5 years’ experience in library environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Studies or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Must be efficient and detail-oriented with excellent, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills both orally and in written format
- Proficient in the use of standard computer applications and library and information management software;
- Strong knowledge of digital library services, research methods, learning technologies
- Attention to detail required
Key Functions
- Managing the human, information and electronic resources of the library and providing an effective legal information service to support the practice areas of the Firm
- Determining the needs of the library, making recommendations for the acquisition of legal resources and effecting an on-going rationalization of the collection
- Coordinating the digitization of research and resource materials within the library
- Developing procedures and guidelines for library usage by identifying and implementing library and information systems to meet the needs of the Firm’s users
- Organizing and storing knowledge by classifying and cataloguing legal publications, compliance with copyright laws, and other documents in accordance with international library and standards and procedures, and by storing this information in appropriate databases for retrieval and dissemination of information
- Develops and maintains an up-to-date computerized library database
- Preparing and submitting annual estimates of expenditures for the library in respect of print and electronic publications (including serials)
- Working with the Firm’s I.T. Systems Manager to develop and maintain databases of legal information
- Developing systems and procedures for management of library processes and materials
- Staying updated with developments in legal resources and technologies
