Our Human Resource Manager will help us successfully launch our exciting new venture in Jamaica. Tasks with range from recruitment, training & development to performance management.
As one of our first hires in the country you will play a key role in successfully launching the Bocobay brand in Jamaica. You are an experienced HR all-rounder, who is as comfortable running hiring and performance management processes as they are meeting staff on-site, listening to ideas and concerns, and ensuring all Bocobay staff in Jamaica are able to perform their best. Working in a new, fast-growing hospitality business you need to be proactive and self-motivated, which may often mean stepping outside of the narrow bounds of “human resources” to help us in our mission of making every stay with Bocobay truly unforgettable. In short, you’re a “buck-stops-with-me” kind of person who never says “that’s not my job”.
Bocobay is revolutionizing hospitality through innovative, tech-powered service and inspiring, thoughtfully designed accommodations combined into one seamlessly managed experience. Launched in 2020 in Aruba, Bocobay is a private-equity backed business bringing a new standard to the Caribbean vacation rental market. We are now set to expand to our third island, Jamaica.
As Human Resources Manager you are overseeing our local people operation in Jamaica, which will initially include ~80 staff (mostly maids and chefs). Based out of our office in Runaway Bay you will own the hiring, onboarding, training and performance management processes. The operation will initially be limited to a new 20+ unit villa development, with our offices located onsite. As we expand our business further, regular travel will be required to our other sites in Jamaica. This role is hands-on, meaning you will spend considerable time onsite with staff, directly providing support, overseeing operations and addressing people matters.
As an early employee, you will have a significant opportunity to shape our operations in Jamaica and grow with the company. Starting from our base in Runaway Bay, we will expand to additional sites along the northern shores and potentially elsewhere on the island. This role is especially suited to an ambitious and talented human resources professional, who has grown through the ranks in established luxury hospitality players in Jamaica and is looking for an opportunity to step up into a leadership position.
Important to note: We are a young company with ambitious growth plans, and this is not a 9-to-5 role (at least not always). The nature of our business means that urgent requests can come in at all times, and while we always try to make sure our staff get sufficient rest and time off, hospitality hours can be long and unpredictable during peak times and as new projects launch. This reality is offset by flexibility around working hours during quiet times: Our default is to trust our employees, and we encourage you to make up for extra hours worked by clocking off early when there is the possibility to do so (coordinating with your team members).
