Heavy Equipment Operator (ECGC)

Our client, East Caribbean Group of Companies (ECGC) is seeking to fill the position of Heavy Equipment Operator.

JOB SUMMARY

The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating and maintaining company-owned heavy equipment, including trailer trucks, trailers, and forklifts. The role requires a skilled and safety-conscious operator who will ensure the effective use, mobility, maintenance, and security of all assigned equipment for the benefit of the company.

MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To haul containers from and to ECGC premises or as otherwise directed safely and efficiently.
• Ensure proper loading, unloading, and transportation of goods.
• Liaise with ships’ agents for permission to remove empty units from the port.
• Maintain proper record-keeping of the movement of containers from the port.
• Prepare and submit monthly reports.
• Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of equipment in collaboration with the Plant Technology department for effective maintenance of the equipment.
• Monitor all visible instruments consistent with driving a safe vehicle to ensure maximum care and attention to the safety of the general public.
• Update and inform your immediate supervisor, the Plant Technology department, and management on any issues relating to the effective operations of the heavy equipment.
• Ensure that the container is properly secured to the chassis and stored in a safe area at all times.
• Check vehicle oil, fluid etc., daily and report any abnormalities to the supervisor.
• Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or operational concerns promptly.
• Adhere to all company policies, health, safety, and environmental standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). 
• Ensure that the equipment is kept clean at all times.
• Comply with all Traffic Department regulations.
• Perform any other related duty which may be assigned from time to time.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Five (5) CSEC subjects.
• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the haulage of 20ft and 40ft containers or in a similar role.
• Must have a valid heavy equipment (F) driver’s license.
• Strong knowledge of equipment maintenance and safe operating practices.
• Ability to follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must be organized, motivated, and a team player.
• Knowledge of traffic regulations.
• Exceptional customer relations.
• Basic computer knowledge required.
• Defensive driving certified.
