Accountable and responsible for the management of Health, Safety, Security and Environmental in the workplace with the aim of minimizing loss and liabilities arising from injury to person, and damage to property and environment.

Objective:

 

Reporting to the Health & Safety Lead, this position is primarily accountable and responsible for the management of Health, Safety, Security and Environmental in the workplace with the aim of minimizing loss and liabilities arising from injury to person, and damage to property and environment. The Health & Safety Officer must implement and manage Company’s Health & Safety Management System.

 

 

Main Responsibilities include:

 

Develop and Manage

  • Develop workers knowledge and ensure compliance with Company’s HSMS.
  • Ensure compliance with Company’s H&S Global Standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Guyana Health, Safety, Act and Regulations.
  • Conduct Annual Risk Assessment for Company operations/facilities in Guyana.
  • Conduct Annual Occupational Safety & Health Legal Gap Analysis for Guyana.
  • Assist teams by developing and implementing a safe system of work.
  • Ensure compliance with Contractor Management System.
  • Implement Company’s Minimum Health Check Requirements & Occupational Health (Wellness initiatives).
  • Communicate H&S alerts to all workers. Documented evidence of communication must be maintained.
  • Prepare Annual Health and Safety training matrix and execute annually.
  • Conduct audits as scheduled and ensure action plans to address gaps.

 

Monitoring and Inspections

  • Ensure H&S noticeboard and statistics boards are updated weekly.
  • Submit weekly report to H&S Lead or designate as instructed.
  • Update Monthly Safety & Health Initiatives as instructed.
  • Perform daily inspections of jobsites and audit PTW, JSA, Method Statement, LOTOTO, etc.
  • Conduct monthly documented inspection of facility with Operation Leaders and Joint H&S Committee Representatives.
  • Ensure all incidents are reported to H&S Manager as soon as possible.
  • Participate in accident investigation/RCA and follow reporting protocols.
  • Ensure annual third-party certification for all air receivers, pressure vessels and lifting equipment and accessories.
  • Perform monthly inspection on all fire prevention and protection systems.
  • Ensure annual third-party certification on fire prevention & protection system as required.
  • Conduct monthly Road Incident Prevention Program Assessment.
  • Assist with the development and review of Standard Work.

 

Supervision

  • Oversees employees' compliance to H&S policies, standards, and practices.

 

Maintenance of Health & Safety Systems

  • Ensure all monthly reports are entered on relative platform as requested.
  • Ensure attendance at all meetings and complete all training as instructed.
  • Develop and communicate Emergency Response Plan.
  • Keeps abreast of changing regulations and implements relevant programs to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure 100% compliance to Company’s HSMS Audit Criteria.

 

Training & Development

  • Coordinate and conduct training/awareness sessions for all employees and contractors as per training matrix and as directed.
  • Ensure Safety training is completed for all employees as required.
  • Conduct H&S Induction for all new workers, contractors and visitors and annual refreshers induction for all workers.
  • Ensure training for drivers/heavy equipment operators is conducted.
  • Conduct emergency drill exercises as required.

 

Safety Awareness

  • Develop and prepare materials to communicate safety awareness.
  • Monitor effectiveness of safety initiatives and prepare developmental plans.
  • Prepare/Arrange safety talks and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Coordinates and schedules HSE related meetings.

 

Others

  • Involvement in activities not specified in Standards of Performance but which are related to the job.
  • Involvement in activities / jobs which are not intrinsically inherent in functional responsibilities but which have the potential to enhance the company’s public image and develop the individual e.g. Community Work, participation in National Bodies and Professional Organizations.
  • Perform any other job-related functions as directed by the H&S Leader.

 

 

Required Education / Expertise / Skills:

 

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Management, Engineering, or any related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Intermediate – Advanced)
  • IOSH / OSHA (10hr or 30hr) / NEBOSH Certificate
  • Training in First Aid and CPR
  • Knowledge of H&S Act and Regulations and different types of H&S management systems
  • Excellent leadership and teamwork
  • Great communication skills

 

 

Required Experience:

 

  • Minimum experience of 3-5 years in any similar position.
