Applications are invited from suitably qualified employees to fill the following position at the North-Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA):

MANAGER, OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

The incumbent will be responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive health and safety management system to maintain a safe working conditions and practices as they relate to the operations. Also, responsible for the development, co-ordination and implementation of systems, polices and processes that ensure the integration of Occupational Health and Safety throughout the Authority.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional guidance and input on all related Health and Safety issues at the Authority.
  • Plan and institute policies and procedures and approaches for the management of Health and Safety issues in the Authority.
  • Develop and publish a workable Health and Safety manual that is applicable to the Authority.
  • Institutes a system to ensure that guidelines are followed and adhered to by staff and the public throughout the Region.
  • Provide training and educates all staff members on issues relating to Health and Safety.
  • Direct and control the planning and implementation of established events and programmes to ensure the achievement of approved work targets.
  • Prepare operational and informational reports as required.
  • Monitor, report, identify and develop all administrative and professional staff requirements relative to training, upgrading of all required skill sets and performance appraisals.
  • Prepare draft budget proposal and administers approved budgets.
  • Plan, develop, recommend and implement new procedures and approaches to safety and loss prevention based on reports of incidents, accidents and other data gathered from personnel.
  • Disseminate information to Department heads and Institutions regarding potential risk of toxic substances, hazards and other safety information.
  • Assist Department Heads in enforcing safety regulations and codes.
  • Conduct surveys at Institutions and Facilities on a periodic basis to detect violations, hazards and incorrect work practices and procedures.
  • Receive and coordinate the investigation of employee complaints relating to health and safety.
  • Develop and implement appropriate procedures for the maintenance of the Department.
  • Supervise, direct, appraise, train, develop and monitor the utilization of subordinate personnel to create and maintain effective levels of productivity.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance, Inventory Audits and ensure that legal records are properly maintained.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by the organizational relationship.

Minimum Qualifications, Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Health Safety and Environmental Management, Public health or an equivalent discipline.
  • Postgraduate training in Health and Safety Management will be an asset.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in the Health and Safety field; two (2) of which must be at the middle management level.
  • Any other equivalent qualifications, training and experience may be considered.

*Certificates acquired at foreign universities MUST be supported by certified transcripts as well as evidence that the completed programme is accredited in Trinidad and Tobago.
