JOB SUMMARY:

The HSE Officer is responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the company’s HSE management systems. This role ensures compliance with legal requirements, industry standards, and corporate governance frameworks while fostering a proactive safety culture across all operations.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of HSE policies, procedures, risk assessments, and management systems to ensure compliance with company standards, ISO requirements, and applicable legislation.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, site visits, and compliance reviews to identify hazards, monitor workplace safety, and drive corrective actions.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain HSE documentation, records, reports, and regulatory submissions.
  • Support risk management activities, including risk assessments, safe work verification, contractor monitoring, and incident investigations.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, drills, response plans, and follow-up actions.
  • Develop and deliver HSE training, toolbox talks, and employee engagement initiatives to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Monitor compliance with environmental permits, sustainability requirements, and environmental management programs.
  • Analyze HSE performance data and recommend continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety and environmental performance.
  • Support the procurement and management of HSE-related equipment and resources.
  • Manage Unsafe Condition/Unsafe Behaviour (UC/UB) reporting, corrective action tracking, and closure of identified issues.
  • Conduct inspections and verification of safety-critical equipment and controls to ensure operational readiness.
  • Fulfil Group HSE requirements and provide ongoing support for corporate HSE initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support the effective operation of the HSE function.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of a Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field from a recognized institute. 
  • Professional certification in HSE (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate, ISO 45001/14001 Lead Auditor, or equivalent) is an asset.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an HSE role, preferably within a manufacturing, FMCG, or brewery environment.
  • Hands-on experience with incident investigation, risk assessments, and HSE digital platforms. 

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HSE digital systems, with the ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver training and present information to diverse audiences.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable HSE legislation, standards, and best practices, including the OSH Act, EMA Act, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.
  • Experience in incident investigation, risk assessment, root cause analysis, corrective action management, and safe systems of work.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to promote accountability and drive HSE compliance across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to interpret HSE data, identify trends, and recommend effective risk mitigation measures.
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships and foster a positive safety culture through stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
