SMS is looking for a talented Group Commercial Manager to join our Sales Team! The Group Commercial Manager is a member of the leadership team and reports directly to the Managing Director of the company. This leader serves as the crucial bridge between business strategy, product innovation, and market execution (marketing communication and sales).
What you’ll do:
The incumbent would have the following main responsibilities:
Driving Business Growth & Revenue Expansion
- Identifying new market opportunities and revenue streams.
- Developing strategic partnerships to expand the company’s reach.
- Aligning business goals with product offerings to maximize profitability.
- Working with sales and marketing to create and execute go-to-market strategies.
Leading Product Development & Innovation
- Defining the product vision, strategy, and roadmap to meet market demands.
- Ensures that solutions are aligned with customer needs and industry trends.
- Works closely with software development, engineering, and technical solutions teams to deliver high-quality products.
- Oversee the entire product lifecycle, from ideation to launch and iteration.
Enhancing Competitive Positioning
- Conducts market research and competitive analysis to identify differentiators.
- Positions the company’s products effectively against competitors.
- Ensure the company remains at the forefront of technological advancements.
Strengthening Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Acts as a central coordinator between engineering, sales, marketing, and technical services.
- Ensures that all teams are aligned toward business and product objectives.
- Facilitates efficient decision-making and execution across departments.
Strategy Enablement & Planning
- Partner with business units to translate strategic objectives into clear execution plans.
- Provide frameworks (e.g., OKRs, roadmaps, scorecards) to help teams align and track progress.
- Facilitate strategy rollout sessions, planning workshops, and alignment forums.
Customer & Market-Centric Strategy
- Gathers and analyzes customer feedback to inform product improvements.
- Works with customer facing and support teams to enhance user experience.
- Builds a culture of customer-driven product development.
Managing Financial & Performance Metrics
- Sets and tracks KPIs for product success, revenue growth, and market penetration.
- Ensures that product development initiatives align with budget constraints and ROI objectives.
- Continuously monitors performance and adjusts strategies to optimize results.
Execution Support & Governance
- Build and maintain cross-functional initiative tracking systems.
- Identify execution gaps, dependencies, and risks; proactively drive solutions.
- Create and oversee lightweight governance structures to monitor strategic initiatives.
Outcome Measurement & KPI Development
- Collaborate with leaders to define success metrics and KPIs for each initiative.
- Monitor, report, and analyse progress using dashboards and executive briefs.
- Establish leading and lagging indicators to guide decision-making.
Performance Enablement
- Provide teams with tools, templates, best practices, and coaching for strategic delivery.
- Identify capacity or capability gaps and coordinate solutions (training, resources, support).
- Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Communication & Change Management
- Design and lead strategic communications that keep stakeholders informed and engaged.
- Support organizational change efforts related to strategic shifts or transformations.
- Serve as a bridge between strategy, operations, and communication teams.
Any other related duties, as may be assigned by the CEO
What we’re looking for:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; MBA or equivalent is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years in business development, product management, or a similar leadership role within the technology/software industry.
- Track Record: Demonstrated success in scaling business operations, launching successful products, and driving revenue growth.
