Our Client, an organisation in the ready-mix concrete and construction materials sector, is seeking to recruit a dynamic and results-oriented General Manager (GM) to provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and commercial direction for its operations.

Position Summary

The General Manager (GM) will provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and commercial direction for the organisation. The GM will be responsible for ensuring that the company achieves its production, financial, and service delivery objectives while maintaining the highest standards of technical excellence, reliability, and safety.

This position requires a proven leader with strong experience in manufacturing or construction materials operations, particularly within the concrete, aggregates, or heavy construction industries. The GM will oversee the full range of business activities, including production, logistics, sales, safety, maintenance, quality assurance, and people management.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and execute strategic and operational plans in alignment with the company’s growth objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency improvement, business expansion, and technological advancement.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Operations Management

  • Oversee daily production and dispatch activities to ensure consistent delivery of ready-mix concrete that meets quality and strength specifications.
  • Optimise the use of raw materials, equipment, and manpower for cost-effective and timely production.
  • Ensure the operational readiness of all plants, equipment, and vehicles through robust maintenance programmes.
  • Enforce strict compliance with OSH standards and environmental regulations.

Commercial & Financial Performance

  • Manage the company’s P&L to ensure profitability, financial discipline, and cost efficiency.
  • Lead pricing strategies, tender submissions, and contract negotiations with clients.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and client satisfaction to inform commercial decisions.

People Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of technical, operational, and administrative personnel.
  • Encourage teamwork, accountability, and professionalism across all levels of the organisation.
  • Build a safety-first and customer-focused workplace culture.

Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, regulators, and industry partners.
  • Represent the organisation at key industry forums and maintain its reputation for quality and reliability.
  • Collaborate closely with the Group’s executive leadership to ensure alignment on strategy and shared resources.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline; a Master’s degree would be an asset.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ senior management experience within manufacturing, construction materials, or related industrial sectors.
  • Proven experience leading plant operations, logistics, or supply chain functions with P&L accountability.
  • Strong understanding of quality control processes in ready-mix or similar production environments.
  • Established record of leadership in safety, workforce engagement, and performance management.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and relationship management skills.
