Researcher (Genealogy & Tracing)

Job Purpose:

To conduct structured research and data collection in support of genealogy investigations and tracing cases, ensuring accurate, timely, and well-documented findings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receive and review assigned cases from the case register
• Conduct background research using:
• Civil registration records (birth, death, marriage)
• Electoral rolls and directories
• Public archives and databases
• Gather and verify personal and family data related to subjects
• Support tracing activities by identifying leads (addresses, relatives, migration patterns)
• Maintain detailed case notes and update the case tracking system regularly
• Prepare research summaries and reports for review by supervisor
• Liaise with government agencies, churches, and record offices where necessary
• Ensure all research complies with confidentiality and data protection standards

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong analytical and investigative skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to organize and interpret large amounts of data
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel or case management systems
• Good written communication skills

Qualifications:

• Diploma or degree in Social Sciences, History, Records Management, or related field
• Experience in research, records management, or investigations is an asset
