About the Role
We're seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead Serge Island Farms. The successful candidate will understand how the farm runs and manage both the administrative and operational aspects. The core functions of this role include:
· Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the strategic plan for Serge Island Farms, ensuring it aligns with the Company's overall business objectives.
· Operational Management: Oversee the farm's daily operations, ensuring the efficient use of resources and sticking to production schedules. This also involves driving innovation in farming techniques to enhance productivity and sustainability.
· Financial Oversight: Manage the farm's financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting on key metrics to stakeholders.
· Quality Control: Implement and monitor measures to ensure all products meet or exceed customer specifications and expectations.
· Performance and Innovation: Drive a significant increase in productivity, keeping a keen eye on key performance indicators (KPIs), including production rates, productivity, and the nutritional content of animal feed. You will be responsible for introducing new, innovative programs (including breeding) to support the growth and resilience of the herd.
· Risk Management: Implement risk management strategies to prevent losses in all areas with the help of specialist dairy farming consultants.
· Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the management team and staff to create a productive work environment that encourages high performance. The role also involves promoting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.
· Compliance and Relations: Ensure the farm complies with all relevant agricultural regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental guidelines. You will also be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, customers, and government agencies.
About the Person
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Business Management, or a related field, with a Master's degree being preferred. A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in agricultural management is required - preference will be given to candidates with dairy farming experience. The successful candidate must have a strong knowledge of agricultural practices, proven leadership skills , and financial acumen with experience in budgeting and financial reporting. You should be passionate about sustainability and environmental stewardship and possess excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
