SALARY SCALE: $2,490,804.87 - $2,935,412.12 per annum.
JOB SUMMARY:
The position is responsible for performing general maintenance activities across the Port Authority’s ports and facilities island-wide, in accordance with the planned maintenance program and under the direction of the Supervisor. The role supports technical and maintenance operations within the Harbours Department to ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous upkeep of port infrastructure and facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- NVQ-J Level 2 in General Construction PLUS
- A minimum of three (3) years of practical experience within a similar work environment.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS WITH JOB:
- Frequent exposure to noise, grease, dirt, heat, height, fumes, metal cuttings and watery conditions.
- Frequent island-wide travel to ports, lighthouses and other facilities for extended periods.
- Required to operate tools and heavy equipment.
- Safety gear required to operate machinery.
- Required to work from barge, boats, piers, jetties in proximity to the water.
- Available to work whenever required, including holidays, weekends, and in emergencies.
- Required to travel by boat to perform maintenance functions, including working at various heights and in confined or uncomfortable spaces.
- Involves regular lifting and handling of heavy objects.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide physical and technical support to day-to-day maintenance activities across the Harbours Department.
- Carry out port maintenance activities at assigned PAJ ports and facilities island-wide.
- Assist welders, machinists, and workshop staff with fabrication, assembly, repairs, and general maintenance work.
- Assist with the construction, installation, repair, and securing of fenders, bollards, aprons, and other port infrastructure features.
- Support the repair and maintenance of buoys, top marks, navigational aids, vessels, and related marine equipment.
- Accompany Technicians on maintenance assignments involving lighthouses, cottages, and navigational aids across the island, assisting as required.
- Carry out sandblasting, surface preparation, and cleaning of metal structures, navigational aids, vessels, and equipment as required.
- Perform painting and surface finishing duties on port infrastructure, equipment, and facilities as directed.
- Assist in building, construction, and civil works activities as required.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the Harbours compound, workshops, and work areas.
- Clean and perform basic care of tools, equipment, machinery, vehicles, and vessels used by the Department.
- Assist with the loading, unloading, handling, and secure storage of materials, tools, and equipment.
- Participate in maintenance of aprons, walkways, and other facility features at PAJ ports.
- Support emergency maintenance, hurricane preparedness, disaster response, and recovery activities affecting port operations.
- Any other duties assigned.
