FINANCE & ACCOUNTING MANAGER POSITION SUMMARY
The Finance & Accounting Manager is a hands-on leadership role responsible for building, organizing, and stabilizing the finance and accounting function from the ground up. The role focuses initially on clean-up, system implementation, statutory compliance, and operational control, and will transition into a more strategic finance leadership role as the department matures.
KEY OBJECTIVES (FIRST 12 MONTHS)
Bring all accounting records fully up to date
Implement proper accounting systems, controls, and procedures
Ensure payroll and statutory compliance for all employees
Build and train an effective accounts team
Establish accurate, reliable financial reporting for management
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Finance & Accounting Setup:
Review the current state of financial records and identify gaps
Reconstruct and post outstanding transactions, including prior periods where required
Establish and maintain a proper chart of accounts
Implement or strengthen accounting software and workflows
Create clear accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
2. Financial Operations
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity
Oversee and perform general ledger postings and reconciliations as required
Ensure accurate payroll processing and payroll controls
3. Payroll & Statutory Compliance
Ensure accurate payroll calculations for all employees
Prepare and submit statutory obligations including PAYE, Health Surcharge, NIS, VAT, Corporation Tax, and Annual Returns
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of Trinidad & Tobago tax and statutory requirements
4. Reporting & Management Support
Prepare monthly management accounts including Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow
Provide clear financial reports to support management decisions
Develop basic financial dashboards and performance tracking tools
Assist management with budgeting and cost control initiatives
5. Team Building & Supervision
Recruit, train, and supervise Accounts Officers
Assign duties and implement segregation of responsibilities
Review work performed by accounts staff for accuracy and compliance
Provide ongoing coaching and performance guidance
6. Audit & Governance
Prepare the company for internal and external audits
Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors
Ensure proper documentation, record-keeping, and audit trails
Strengthening governance, control, and accountability across finance operations
7. Continuous Improvement
Identify inefficiencies and risks in financial processes
Recommend and implement improvements and best practices
Support the transition from informal processes to structured systems
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, CMA or equivalent) preferred
Minimum 5 years’ experience in accounting or finance within SMEs or growing organizations
Proven experience building or reorganizing accounting systems
Strong knowledge of Trinidad & Tobago accounting and tax requirements
Experience supervising or mentoring junior accounting staff

WORKING CONDITIONS
Full-time position
Monday to Friday (Saturday’s based on operational needs)
May require visits to various locations
