The Fabricator/Welder is responsible for the accurate completion of assigned fabrication and welding tasks to assist with the repair of equipment as well as the creation of metal products.

Location is Oak Estate, Portmore, St. Catherine

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reading and interpreting engineering blueprints.
  • Constructing base templates if necessary.
  • Measuring and marking out cutting and bending lines.
  • Setting up metalwork machinery including rollers, drill presses, flame cutters.
  • Double-checking design specifications before commencing with cutting work.
  • Fabricating and constructing metal components.
  • Carry out various types of welding (mig, tig, stick, etc.)
  • Grinding and finishing completed products.
  • Assist with the repair of Heavy Duty Equipment
  • Use HVI software to receive, populate and close work orders/requests. Whenever the system cannot be used, a manual job card must be completed for work done. Whether using the HVI system or a job card, it must be clearly outlined the nature of work done, the status of the job, if the job is awaiting parts, if the job was started but remains unfinished or any other status of the job. The status of the job must be kept up to date.
  • Completing job reports.
  • Action received work orders.
  • Exercise diligent care to ensure that the appropriate tools, machinery and equipment are used to carry out job duties, such as using jacks/machines/equipment for heavy lifting, carrying items, cutting, etc. The appropriate tools and equipment that are provided must be used to carry out job duties. Failure to do so is against company policy and will be considered to have been done at your own personal risk.
  • Utilize the appropriate safety gears when carrying out job duties such as appropriate work boots, gloves, high visibility clothing, protective hard helmet, masks/respirators as needed, harness when working at heights and any other safety items that may be required as per the need of the job duty.
  • Exercise due care when working with gases. This includes ensuring that gas cylinders are properly secured and stored during and after usage.
  • Performing quality checks on completed products.
  • Any other related duty that may be assigned.
  • Follows established safety guidelines, procedures, and safe equipment operating practices.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Leaving Certificate
  • Ability to read and write
  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar position
  • Technical knowledge of welding and fabrication
