The Estimator is responsible for reviewing tender documents, attending site visits, conducting quantity take-offs, assessing labour, equipment and material costs, coordinating with key stakeholders and ensuring competitive and commercially viable bids.

Job Summary

The Estimator is responsible for accurately calculating the total costs associated with Invitations to Tender (ITTs) and RFQs and determining the cost of the product/service that will be provided in accordance with defined scope(s), schedule, quality and HSE requirements.  This role involves reviewing tender documents, attending site visits, conducting quantity take-offs, assessing labour, equipment and material costs, coordinating with engineering and operations teams and ensuring competitive and commercially viable bids aligned with Company standards and Client requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Review and analyze tender documents, technical drawings, and client specifications to prepare accurate, comprehensive cost estimates and budgets for material, labour, equipment and sub-contractor costs.
  2. Perform quantity take-offs for piping, structural, mechanical, and civil works.
  3. Liaise with engineering, procurement, and operations teams to develop competitive proposals, coordinating and monitoring work progress with key stakeholders.
  4. Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client clarification meetings.
  5. Conceptualize layouts for scope of works and review all estimates before they are submitted.
  6. Review bid proposals for accuracy and completeness prior to submission for approval.
  7. Maintain and update cost databases and estimating tools.

Key Competencies and Required Knowledge

  • Understanding and knowledge of the repair and maintenance of Structural Steel, Piping, and Process Equipment such as, but not limited to, Reformers, Heaters, Columns, Exchangers, Reactors and Vessels.
  • Working knowledge of MS Projects and/ or Primavera software.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite and databases.
  • Familiarity with the use and application of engineering codes such as ASME, API, ANSI.
  • Keen eye for details; good project management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet multiple tender deadlines.

Qualification and Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Industrial Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated competence normally acquired over a minimum of (10) years’ experience in estimating within EPC projects, industrial construction, or oil and gas, plant maintenance.

OR

  • Demonstrated competence normally acquired over a minimum of (15) years practical experience within the industry as a Project Technician/Coordinator or Field Supervisor.
  • Experience with shutdowns/turnarounds (TAR), fabrication maintenance, installation or brownfield projects.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating tools.
