Job description:

Suitably qualified applicants are invited to apply for the above-mentioned position within the Engineering Maintenance Department.

JOB SUMMARY:

Assist in carrying out maintenance work on all Electrical and Instrumentation Plant equipment and associated facilities. Assists Senior Technicians in troubleshooting and fault tracing. Works independently on routine jobs and PM’s.

REPORTING LINE

The E&I Technician III reports to the Shift Supervisor.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Carries out power calculation and can verify correct sizing based on system loading. 
2. Understands different types of motor starters and transformers and is able to troubleshoot/install as needed.
3. Carries out troubleshooting and fault tracing analysis using test equipment carefully to determine condition and repair work necessary.
4. Troubleshoots VFDs and calibration/troubleshooting of control loops.
5. Carries out routine and special inspections in accordance with checklist provided and maintenance procedures.
6. Determines repairs and upon instruction carries out E&I maintenance and repair work to equipment and completes such work within the schedule set.
7. Reports all equipment defects and abnormal conditions promptly to Supervisor/Engineer.
8. Records relevant information on maintenance work in repair history files or work report sheets detailing as far as possible repairs/modifications made.
9. Carries out non-destructive inspections of materials and equipment in accordance with procedures.
10. Obtains necessary tools and materials to ensure satisfactory completion of the jobs.
11. Observes all safety procedures, general rules and E&I Engineering standards and practices in the execution of duties.
12. Maintains clean and tidy work area and good housekeeping practices in and around the plant.
13. Carries out any other related duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Electrical Technician Diploma with one (1) year's relevant experience in a similar industry.
• Electrical and Instrument Craft Certificate or equivalent with three (3) years relevant work experience in a similar industry.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Clear understanding of the objectives of the Maintenance Program.
• Maintains a performance rating in Fault tracing Analysis repairs and Installation work of at least *A in: -

1. Instrument Loops
2. Electrical Interlocks

         and at least one *B and *C in:

3. Switch / Transformer/ UPS / Motor I Motor Starters / Batteries / Charger / Lighting.
4. Motor I Analysers/ Control Valves/ Pneumatic Instruments/ Electronic Instruments.

*A Has thorough understanding of equipment and system. Capable of carrying out Fault Tracing Analysis, repair and installation work on his own. Produces 
consistently high quality of work. Always select correct test equipment and materials for the job and complete assignments quickly. Able to grasp situations 
quickly and draw correct conclusions.

*B Has good understanding of Electrical and Instrument Systems. Capable of 
troubleshooting but needs guidance from time to time.

*C Has basic working knowledge of system and can understand nature of faults when
explained. Needs guidance when troubleshooting.
