DRIVER

The Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), the only specialized maritime university in the English-speaking Caribbean, is inviting applications for DRIVER.

JOB PURPOSE: 

Under the supervision of the Transportation and logistics Officer, the Driver is responsible for transporting staff, students, and visitors to and from designated locations and for the delivery and collection of mail and packages for the University in a safe and timely manner.

The incumbent will conduct vehicle inspections and ensure passenger safety and promote positive customer service at all times. The Driver will perform routine checks, such as oil, fuel, and tire pressure, and report any needed repairs.  Additionally, the Driver will maintain cleanliness of the vehicle and will be accountable that he/she performs duties professionally and according to the university’s policy.

  • Stakeholders transported in a safe, timely and efficient manner
  • Packages, documents and mail transported efficiently and timely
  • Delivery record and other records are maintained
  • Vehicle cleaned and maintained
  • Reports are prepared

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  •  Graduated Secondary level education with passes in at least three (3) subjects one of which should be English Language
  • A minimum of three (3) years' work experience in a similar capacity
  • A valid driver’s license that can operate within the requirements specified by the University.
  • Strong knowledge of traffic laws and safe driving practices.

 REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of University’s Policies and Procedures;
  • Knowledge of defensive driving techniques;
  • Knowledge of basic service requirements of vehicles;
  • Ability to drive a multi-passenger vehicle safely and appropriately;
  • Mechanical skills;
  • Knowledge of the Road Traffic Act.
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity and responsibility in the performance of all duties.
  • The ability to effectively develop good interpersonal relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of Management
  • Ability to write concise and accurate reports;
  • Good skill in operating both automatic and manual vehicles
  • Excellent integrity/ethics exercised in the performance of duties;
  • Committed to the ethos of accountability, cost-effective and customer service

 KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

  • Operates university-owned vehicles to transport students, staff, faculty, and visitors safely and within designated timeframes;
  • Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in proper working condition; completes daily vehicle logs accordingly;
  • Verifies that all required vehicle documents, including registration, insurance, and certificate of fitness are current and valid;
  • Maintains the cleanliness and general upkeep of assigned vehicles;
  • Safeguards the University-issued fuel card and ensures compliance with usage guidelines;
  • Follows all safety protocols, ensures passengers adhere to safety procedures, and reports any incidents or concerns promptly;
  • Complies with all traffic laws, university transportation policies, and applicable safety regulations;
  • Performs daily maintenance checks and minor servicing tasks for example, checking oil, coolant, tire pressure;
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of trips, fuel consumption, maintenance, and any incidents or repairs;
  • Prepares and submits petrol and vehicle logs in the required format and within specific deadlines;
  • Promotes and ensures a high standard of customer service and passenger safety throughout all assignments;
  • Reports vehicle malfunctions or mechanical issues and facilitates necessary corrective actions;
  • Ensures the secure and timely delivery and pickup of packages and official documents;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned in support of university operations.

 PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  • Maintained a clean, well-organized, and safe vehicle environment, both interior and exterior.
  • Consistent adherence to professional standards, including punctuality, dress code, and respectful interaction with all stakeholders are maintained.
  • Accurate, timely, and effective communication and information to passengers, supervisors, and relevant departments are provided.
  • Completes transportation assignments and deliveries within the stipulated timeframes, ensuring safety and compliance with all traffic regulations.
  • Mail, documents, equipment, and materials are dispatched correctly and reach their intended destinations on time.
  • Excellent customer service is displayed at all times during the discharge of duties
