JOB FUNCTION:
The Division Head, Non-Foods is a senior executive position responsible for overseeing and driving the strategic direction and operational excellence of all non-food divisions within the retail, wholesale and distribution company. This role encompasses leadership of the department store (including home appliances/electronics and furniture), home & building center, vehicle sales, garage workshop operations, and manufacturing facilities. The incumbent will be accountable for P&L management, business growth, operational efficiency, and team development across these diverse business units.
 
 
 
Key Responsibilities:
 

  1. DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES”
Department Store Management (Home Appliances/Electronics & Furniture)
  1. Develop and execute strategic plans for the department store division, focusing on home appliances, electronics, and furniture categories
  2. Oversee merchandising strategies, product mix optimization, and inventory management
  3. Lead pricing strategies, promotional planning, and competitive analysis
  4. Ensure excellent customer experience standards and service quality across all store locations
  5. Manage vendor relationships, negotiations, and procurement strategies for the category
  6. Drive sales performance, market share growth, and profitability goals
 
Home & Building Center Operations
  1. Provide strategic leadership for home improvement and building materials centers
  2. Oversee product assortment planning, inventory optimization, and supply chain management
  3. Develop and implement merchandising strategies for building materials, hardware, and home improvement products
 
  1. Ensure compliance with safety standards and building codes across all operations
  2. Manage vendor partnerships and procurement for construction and building materials
  3. Drive operational excellence and cost control measures
 
Vehicle Sales & Garage Workshop Management
  1. Lead strategic direction for vehicle dealership operations, including new and used car sales
  2. Oversee garage workshop operations, service center management, and maintenance services
  3. Develop sales strategies, customer acquisition programs, and retention initiatives
  4. Ensure compliance with automotive industry regulations and warranty standards
  5. Manage parts inventory, service scheduling, and workshop efficiency metrics
  6. Drive customer satisfaction and service quality standards
 
Manufacturing Operations
  1. Provide executive oversight for manufacturing facilities producing non-food products
  2. Develop and implement manufacturing strategies, production planning, and capacity optimization
  3. Ensure quality control standards, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency
  4. Manage supply chain integration, raw material procurement, and production scheduling
  5. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing practices
  6. Oversee workforce planning, training, and development for manufacturing teams
 
  1. CROSS FUNCTIONAL DUTIES:
  1. Leadership & Team Management
  1. Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of divisional managers and supervisors
  2. Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
  3. Implement performance management systems and succession planning strategies
  4. Ensure alignment of team goals with overall business objectives
  5. Promote employee engagement, development, and retention across all divisions
  6. Bi-weekly meetings with direct reports discussing the operations of their respective departments, handling challenges and providing guidance and suggestions among other things
 
  1. Strategic Planning & Business Development
  1. Develop comprehensive business plans and growth strategies for all non-food divisions
  2. Identify new market opportunities, product categories, and expansion possibilities
  3. Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and consumer behavior patterns
  4. Lead strategic initiatives for portfolio optimization and business model innovation
  5. Develop and execute capital expenditure plans and major project investments
 
  1. Financial Management
  1. Assume full responsibility for P&L management across all non-food divisions
  2. Develop and monitor budgets, financial forecasts, and performance metrics
  3. Drive cost optimization initiatives and margin improvement strategies
  4. Ensure financial controls, compliance, and reporting accuracy
  5. Analyze financial performance and make data-driven business decisions
 
 
  1. Stakeholder Management
  1. Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, vendors, and partners
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, finance, and operations
  3. Represent the company in industry associations and business forums
  4. Develop and maintain relationships with key customers and major accounts
  5. Communicate effectively with senior leadership and board members
 
  1. AI Integration and Digital Transformation
 
  1. The Division Head, Non-Foods will leverage artificial intelligence and advanced analytics to drive strategic decision-making and operational excellence across all divisions.
  2. AI technologies will be utilized for demand forecasting and inventory optimization, utilizing machine learning algorithms to predict consumer trends and optimize stock levels across multiple categories.
  3. In the retail space, AI-powered customer analytics will provide personalized shopping experiences, dynamic pricing strategies, and targeted marketing campaigns to enhance customer engagement and loyalty. For manufacturing operations, AI-driven predictive maintenance systems will minimize equipment downtime while maintaining quality standards through computer vision-based quality control systems.
  4. In vehicle sales, AI chatbots and virtual assistants will enhance customer service, while AI-powered sales forecasting will optimize inventory management and pricing strategies.
  5. The role requires embracing digital transformation initiatives that integrate AI technologies across all business functions to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, enhance customer experiences, and drive sustainable growth in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
 
  1. Scope of Authority
  1. Full P&L responsibility for the Non-Foods division
  2. Authority over strategic planning and business development
  3. In conjunction with Finance Department - Budgetary control and resource allocation decisions
  4. In conjunction with the HR department - Team recruitment, training, and performance management
  5. In conjunction with the Supply chain team - Vendor negotiations and partnership management
  6. In conjunction with the IT department - Technology system implementation and upgrades
  7. Pricing strategy and promotional campaign approval
  8. Customer experience standards and service level implementation
  9. Manufacturing operations oversight and process optimization
  10. Quality control systems and compliance management
 
 
 
  1. Reporting:
 
Weekly/BI-Weekly Reports
  1. Team Meeting Summary:  Detailed documentation of bi-weekly team meetings (every 2 weeks) within 24 hours of date of meeting
  2. Cross-Divisional Coordination Report: Updates on interdepartmental initiatives due each Monday.
 
Monthly Reports – due by 5th day of the following month
Monthly reports should include but are not limited to the following:
  1. Financial Performance Analysis: Revenue, costs, and profitability by division with comparisons to budget and last fiscal year
  2. Strategic Initiative Progress: KPI achievement against quarterly goals
  3. Staff Turnover and Morale: Retention rates, exit interviews, and engagement metrics
  4. Market Analysis: Competitive intelligence and market trends affecting divisions
  5. Monthly Performance Dashboard:  Monday submission covering key metrics across all divisions
  6. Operational Issues Log: Document all operational challenges and resolutions
  7. Staff Performance Summary: Individual and team performance highlights and concerns
  8. Customer Feedback Analysis: Compilation of customer complaints and compliments by division
  9. Training and Development Progress: Staff training completions and upcoming needs
  10. Compliance Status: Regulatory compliance updates across all divisions

Requirements: Qualities – Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
  • Bachelor’s. in Business Administration, marketing, retail management or related field
  • Master’s degree or MBA and asset.
  • Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in multi-category divisions.
  • Experience in brick-and-mortar as well as e-commerce
  • Deep understanding of supply chain management, logistics, etc
  • In-depth understanding of home improvements and construction product categories
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen
  • Adaptable and resilient in changing business environments
  • Skilled in data analytics, BI tools and financial modeling
  • Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills including the ability to respond calmly and make rational decisions in stressful situations.
