The CDEMA Coordinating Unit (CU) is inviting suitable applications for the position of Disaster Risk Management Specialist (DRMS). The DRMS will focus primarily on incorporating considerations of disaster risk management (inclusive of risk associated with climate change) into the work programme of the CDEMA CU and our Participating States. The DRMS will work to strengthen risk considerations at the sectoral level, mitigation and promote connections with the early recovery components of national programmes and the Strategic Plan of the CDEMA CU.

Compensation:
The compensation will be based on the candidate’s s qualifications and experience.
Merit Criteria:
1.0 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
1.1 Master’s degree in Physical, Social or Earth Sciences, Economics or related discipline; and at least five (5)years’ experience in disaster risk management; or
1.2 A Bachelor’s degree in Physical, Social or Earth Sciences or related discipline and seven (7) years relatedexperience.
1.3 Qualifications in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing would be an asset.
1.4 Demonstrated experience in conducting risk, hazard and vulnerability analysis for natural and anthropogenichazards.
1.5 Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Risk assessment tools and methodologies including modelling.
1.6 Demonstrated experience in Programme design, implementation and monitoring.
1.7 Demonstrated experience leading and coordinating multi stakeholder consultative processes.
2.0 SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
2.1 Strong knowledge of risk assessment methodologies for multiple hazards.
2.2 Strong knowledge of climate change adaptation.
2.3 Comprehensive understanding of issues and challenges in disaster risk management within CDEMAParticipating States.
2.4 Strong understanding of hazard specific programming and planning for key hazards.
2.5 Strong knowledge and understanding of risk, hazard and vulnerability analysis for natural and anthropogenichazards.
2.6 Proposal writing, report writing, data acquisition and analysis skills.
2.7 Good knowledge of disaster and project management issues.
2.8 Proficiency in relevant computer applications.
2.9 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
2.10 Excellent negotiation, diplomacy and advocacy skills.
2.11 Excellent written and oral use of the English language.
2.12 Flexibility and adaptability.
2.13 Thrives in a fast-paced environment.
2.14 Ability to communicate effectively with persons at all levels.
2.15 Demonstrated Team Leadership.
