About the role

The Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DDPP) supports the DPP in the conduct of criminal prosecutions pursuant to S.57 of the Cayman Islands Constitution.  Responsibilities include:

  • Providing strategic advice to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
  • Management of the International Cooperation and Financial Crimes Unit and the Justice Protection and Administration Centre and Court of Appeals Unit to deliver an outstanding prosecution service for the Cayman Islands.
  • Review and prosecution of complex and serious offences before the Grand Court and Court of Appeal.
  • All training and development for the 40 employees of the Office.
  • Assisting the DPP with planning and managing an entity budget of $6.5M per annum.

About you

  • Be a qualified barrister, solicitor, or attorney-at-law in an English-speaking Commonwealth jurisdiction with at least 12 years post qualification experience in criminal law.
  • Have substantial experience prosecuting serious and complex matters at trial and appellate levels.
  • Ignite passion, pace, and drive to deliver services faster, better and more cost effectively.
  • Focus energy on strategic level activities while holding managers accountable for the delivery of operational results.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and the leadership qualities necessary to provide direction and support to Crown Counsel.
