The Driver/Bearer (OPS/TO 2) is responsible for the safe, timely, and discreet transportation of the Commission’s personnel, official documents, and light equipment in support of regulatory, enforcement, and administrative operations.

Job Summary

The Driver/Bearer (OPS/TO 2) is responsible for the safe, timely, and discreet transportation of the Commission’s personnel, official documents, and light equipment in support of regulatory, enforcement, and administrative operations. The post holder ensures strict compliance with the Road Traffic Act, Government of Jamaica motor vehicle policies, and the Commission’s confidentiality standards.

The role requires a high degree of professionalism and discretion, particularly in the transport of sensitive regulatory materials and during site visits to licensed and prospective casino gaming operators.

 

Key Responsibilities

Transportation and Regulatory Support

• Safely transport the Chief Executive Officer, Commissioners, Directors, Enforcement Officers, and other staff to official meetings, inspections, hearings, casino site visits, and other regulatory engagements
• Deliver and collect confidential correspondence, licensing documents, compliance files, and other sensitive materials
• Exercise discretion and confidentiality when transporting personnel and documents associated with regulatory, enforcement, and licensing functions
• Ensure punctuality and efficient route planning to support operational effectiveness

Vehicle Operation and Compliance

• Operate assigned motor vehicle(s) in accordance with the Road Traffic Act and Government of Jamaica motor vehicle policies
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and promptly report defects or irregularities
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks and mileage records
• Monitor fuel usage and ensure proper documentation of all travel
• Ensure that registration, insurance, fitness, and licensing documents are valid and current
• Coordinate routine servicing and maintenance in accordance with established procedures

 

Messenger and Administrative Support

• Provide messenger services to Ministries, Departments and Agencies, financial institutions, statutory bodies and other stakeholders
• Assist with the transport of equipment and materials for meetings, stakeholder engagements, and sensitisation sessions
• Provide general operational support within the HR & Administration Division when not engaged in driving duties

Minimum Required Qualifications and Experience

• Secondary level education
• Valid General Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record
• At least three (3) years’ driving experience
• Sound knowledge of Kingston and surrounding parishes
• Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
• Defensive Driving Certification would be an asset
• Experience operating within a government or regulated environment would be an asset

 

Special Conditions Associated with the Job

• Extensive driving under varying traffic and weather conditions
• Occasional extended working hours, including early mornings and evenings
• Occasional lifting and transport of light equipment and documents
• Exposure to regulated environments, including casino gaming facilities and enforcement-related settings

 

Authority

• Responsible for the safe custody and operation of assigned motor vehicle(s)
• Responsible for the secure transport of official and confidential documents
• Responsible for maintaining accurate vehicle and travel records

 

Grade and Remuneration

Grade: OPS/TO 2
Pay Band: 2
Salary Scale: $1,439,455 – $1,935,907 per annum
