Job Summary:
To execute the strategic plans relating to the customs activities, and related administration that directly supports the Customs and Operations team. The incumbent is required to plan, coordinate and manage resources and activities in the day to day operation, ensure governance, probability and the management of the expenditure. The incumbent shall also lead and develop the team in business and people capabilities to deliver superior results and identify and execute continuous improvements initiatives which increases efficiencies, reduce cost and increase service levels to internal and external clients.
Job Description:
- Develop and execute strategies , objectives and processes for the Customs, and Operations Section.
- Provide input into the development of annual budgets . Monitor and report on actual spend vs planned budget for overtime , rent ,demurrage and inbound transportation cost. Provide explanations and solutions to align expenditure to Snr. Management.
- Prepare and share reports which provide visibility to all internal stakeholders – clearance updates, supply chain dashboards, finance reports and any other reports.
- Maintain a register and renewal system of all Legal, Fiscal and Regulatory requirements related to the operational activities of the business under the supply chain purview. Inclusive of Bonds, Permits and Licenses.
- Plan, coordinate and manage resources and activities related to the day to day activities of the customs, warehouse and operation section.
- Effectively hires, develops and manage the performance of direct reports. Train, support and mentor subordinates to meet job performance expectations.
- Establish KPIs for Customs, and Operations team related to efficiency , turnover and cost metrics ; monitor , report and provide action plans for continuous improvement.
- Prepare and approve request for payment to statutory bodies , ports , shipping lines and any other supplier as required to execute import and export activities.
- Effectively manage activities related to customs, warehousing and operations to ensure proper records management , good supplier relationships and continuous flow of goods to the customers.
- Effectively communicate with statutory bodies , port authority, shipping agents and transport providers to minimize disruptions while ensuring efficient delivery system of goods to customers.
- Researches, negotiates, maintains, monitors, and regularly evaluates relationships and contracts with suppliers so that ASL can meet its standards of quality, timeliness, and cost.
- Perform all duties in conformance with the appropriate health, safety , security and environmental procedures.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and requested by management.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration Logistics and/or Supply Chain Management or equivalent
- A minimum of a Customs Grade 3 Qualification
- A Minimum of 10 years of experience in in the Shipping Industry with a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience
- Strong knowledge of the Shipping Industry with solid planning, execution, and implementation skills
- In depth knowledge of the Customs Tariff , Excise Act, Transportation and Trade Laws
- In depth knowledge of ASYCUDA , ACE and Port Electronic System
- Proficient in MS Office and any other tools utilized in the Supply Chain System
Additional Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Good working knowledge of the shipping industry: including ocean (NVOCC) and air freight ( import & export ) , consolidation , customs brokerage
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Must be self-motivated, customer and goal oriented
- Ability to manage and provide strong leadership to a team
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to negotiate will excellent closing skills
