COMMUNITY PROJECT OFFICER – SAVANNA -LA-MAR

Reporting to the Community Services Lead, and working within the larger Technical and Community Services Unit, the Community Project Officer is instrumental in creating positive change and improving the well-being of assigned, local communities.
This role involves working closely with community members, local organisations, and stakeholders to plan, implement, and evaluate a range of community and social initiatives in alignment with the goals of their assigned communities and the overall objectives of Project STAR.
This position requires a deep commitment to community engagement, the building and maintaining of stakeholder relationships, strong project management skills, and a passion for making a difference in people's lives.

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Community Engagement:

  •  Engage community-based organisations (CBOs) and other local stakeholders (churches, schools, etc.) on an ongoing basis to maintain partnerships.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with community members and leaders to ensure the sustainability of Project STAR and its initiatives.
  • Conduct regular meetings, surveys, and outreach activities to identify community needs and priorities.
  • Ensure that the representation of groups/membership are maintained in the Community Transformation Boards (CTBs) by providing the relevant guidance and support; host CTB meetings.
  • Mobilise broad-based representation/membership in governance structures and other community development initiatives through the use of effective community engagement strategies.
  • Create and maintain a volunteer and stakeholder database for the assigned communities, plus ensure Technical Unit files and documentation are in good order.

 

2. Project Planning and Development:

  • Collaborate with community members and stakeholders to develop project ideas and proposals.
  • Create project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Conduct research to identify potential sources of funding and grants for community projects.

 

 3. Project Implementation:

  • Coordinate project activities, including recruitment and management of volunteers and staff.
  • Oversee the allocation of resources, budgets, and timelines to ensure projects stay on track.
  • Monitor project progress and address any issues or challenges that may arise.

 

4. Logistics & Administrative Support:

  • Provide logistic support for site visits, events, and other community-based activities.
  • Provide administrative support for programmatic activities within the assigned communities, Such as procurement, meeting coordination and communication.
  • Ensure effective and timely dissemination of information and materials with internal (Project STAR) and other external community partners and stakeholders.

5. Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Execute the agreed-on monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of community projects.
  • Collect and analyze data to measure project outcomes and make data-driven improvements.
  • Perform site visits to evaluate and support partner performance, identify weaknesses and strengths, assist with outreach plans, provide technical assistance and training where required.
  • Prepare technical project documents such as workplans, implementation schedules, baselines studies and mapping, in consultation with the Project Director and other Partners.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, project results, and Means of Verification (MOVs).

6. Support the adherence of the terms and conditions of donor and partner contracts.
 
7. Attend Project STAR meetings and events as scheduled.
 
8. Perform other duties related to this role as required. 

 

 

 

JUNIOR COMMUNITY PROJECT  OFFICER – SAVANNA -LA-MAR

 

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  
The incumbent will be responsible for supporting the review of data, design, planning and execution of social and economic initiative s for the community( ies) assigned.   
 
1. Community and Stakeholder Engagement:  
▪ Collaborate with community -based organisations (CBOs) and other local stakeholders
(churches, schools, etc.) on an ongoing basis to maintain partnerships.  
▪ Assist in establishing and maintaining strong relationships with community members and
leaders to ensure the sustainability of Project STAR and its initiatives.   

▪ Conduct regular meetings, surveys, and outreach activities to identify community needs and
priorities.  
▪ Provide support to ensure that representation of groups/membership are maintained in the
Community Transformation Boards (CTBs) by providing the relevant guidance and support; attend
CTB meetings.

▪ Keep up to date with the necessary requirements needed by the project and project team in
assigned community  
▪ Monitor project progress and address any issues or challenges that may arise.

QUALIFICATIONS:  
▪ Diploma or Associate Degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, community development,
nonprofit management), with at least three (3) years of practical experience.  
▪ Experience in project management is a plus.  
▪ Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Empathy and compassion.  
▪ Knowledge of community development principles and practices.  
▪ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  
▪ Proficiency in data collection and analysis.  
▪ Proficiency in office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office suite) and database management.  
▪ Cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the specific needs of the communities served.
