Clinical Nurse Educator

The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants to apply for the position of Clinic Nurse Educator.  The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for designing, implementing, evaluating and revising academic and continuing education programs for nurses. These include formal academic programs that lead to a certificate or more informal continuing education programs designed to meet individual learning needs. The role of the Clinical Nurse Educator is to ensure quality educational experiences that prepare the nursing workforce for a diverse, ever-changing health care environment.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):

1)      Develop curricula for nurse education at BVIHSA. To help students and practicing nurses identify their learning needs, strengths and limitations with a focus on learning opportunities that will build on strengths and overcome limitations.

 

2)      Advising students; engaging in scholarly work (e.g. research) maintaining clinical competence. Participating in professional association, speaking/presenting at nursing conferences.  Supports the development of bedside nurses and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice.

 

3)      Contributes to the improvement and maintenance of BVIHSA’s quality management system, ensuring that services meet acceptable standards through activities including (but not limited to) participation in process improvement projects, intentional adherence to the applicable standards (i.e. Department Policies, DNV, ISO, etc.), participation in addressing non-conformities.

 

4)      Identifies changes that should be made in nursing practice using an evidence-based approach and facilitates the initiation of programs to facilitate needed change.

 

5)      Provides ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the educational activities.

 

6)      Considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning, delivering, and managing nursing professional development activities.

 

7)      Acts as consultant to nurse management in the professional development of staff.

 

8)      Evaluates nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and maintains continuing professional nursing professional development activities

 

9)      Integrates ethical principles in all aspects of practice.

 

10)   Assumes leadership and managerial roles in the absence of the Nursing Unit Manager as delegated

 

11)   Performs other related duties which are consistent with the role profile and may be required in specialty units.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Education & Experience

v  Master of Science, Degree in Nursing

v  Certificate in Education

v  Five (5) years nursing, clinical educator or nursing instructor experience required.

 

Licenses and/or registrations

v  Unencumbered BVI Nursing License and current registration to practice

v  Current BLS certification

v  Certification in Nursing Education

v  Certification in Advance, Pediatric and Neonatal Life Support

 

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

v  Sound knowledge of BVIHSA policies, and procedures.

v  Sound knowledge of the philosophy and goals of the Nursing Services, and the organization.

v  Excellent leadership, organizational and management skills

v  Excellent clinical practice and customer care skills

v  Sound analytical and decision making skills

v  Sound oral and written communication skills

v  Computer literate with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

 

Physical Demands

v  The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout halls, stairways, and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual, and auditory skills. In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.

v  The work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.

 

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
