Medical Technician
The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants to apply for the position of Medical Technician who will work as part of the Emergency Department team performing clinical and clerical duties to meet the goal of providing emergency health care. Duties include preparing patient for provider visit, gathering information, assisting providers with procedures, answering the phone, performing point of care procedures, and assisting the providers and nursing staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):
v Assist the RN with the management of patient flow in the ER
v Assess patients per clinic protocols and document assessment findings.
v Performs peripheral venipuncture for purposes for laboratory testing
v Perform the following clinic duties:
o Assesses vital signs
o Perform point of care tests such as blood sugar measurements, EKGs and urinalysis
o Collects and documents medical histories
o Prepare client for exams
o Assist physicians with clinical procedures
o Assists during emergencies
o Sterilizes instruments
o Initiates referrals to other sources of health care as necessary
o Participate in the quality assurance component of the program
o Allocate time regularly to update professional practice
o Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Educational/Training Requirements/ Experience
v Graduate of accredited Medical Assistant Program
v Acceptance of clinic philosophy, concepts and practices.
v Two years experience in physician’s office or related experience, preferred, but not required
v Current enrollment to practice as Medical Technician in the British Virgin Islands (when available)
v BLS and First aid certification preferred.

Physical Demands
v Position may be required to pull up or reposition patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment on support, push beds throughout the hospital, perform external cardiac compression. The individual must be able to bend over and perform certain duties, e.g. check urinary output etc. The individual must be able to maneuver throughout halls and stairs and in patient’s rooms in response to emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. Must have the ability to lift heavy weights in the event there is a need to evacuate the building
Work Environment
v Position may be located in Acute, Observation or Triage areas of the Emergency Department. . May be required to participate in events such as mass casualties during inclement weather.
SALARY: $27,216.00 - $35,376.00 (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)
