The CEO provides strategic leadership to achieve TTAL’s vision and mission, oversees organizational performance and compliance, leads senior management, drives cultural change, and serves as the Agency’s public face and chief spokesperson.

JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the creation and implementation of the strategy to achieve the Vision and Mission of the Tobago Tourism Agency Limited (TTAL) and to develop its culture. The incumbent is accountable for the strategic plan, direction, leadership and overall success including oversight of the effective delivery of outputs and results of the TTAL, with strong passion, inspiration and commitment to the role, mandate and objectives as the public face and chief spokesperson for the organization. The incumbent is also responsible for leading a strong and competent Senior Management Team and acting as a change agent to inspire an agile culture; and ensuring that TTAL is compliant with applicable laws and regulations that govern its operations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing direction and leadership to the departments directly under his/her control.
  • Leading the Management Team and advises the Board of Directors on the development of the Agency’s strategic plan, including periodic review of the Vision and Mission.
  • Working in collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff and other public and private sector organisations to identify new projects that would further the strategic goals of the Agency.
  • Creating and implementing operational systems and procedures considered necessary to support the achievement of the organisation’s business and strategic objectives in the short and long term.
  • Troubleshooting any issues within TTAL’s control which can have a direct negative impact on the image of Tobago and the achievement of tasks within specified timelines.
  • Preparing, in consultation with key partners, implementation plans for the development of Tobago’s tourism industry, in accordance with the strategic plan.
  • Works in tandem with the Named Procurement Officer.
  • As the Accounting Officer for the Agency, ensures that the Procurement processes are aligned to the Procurement Act.
  • Ensuring that proper controls are in place to manage and protect the Agency’s assets and mitigate risks.
  • Ensuring that proper accounting procedures are in place and are being followed and that accurate and timely financial reports are produced.
  • Overseeing budget submissions from direct reports which would be used for the development of an annual budget.
  • Timely submission of overall budget for review and approval by the Board of Directors.
  • Monitoring and analyzing monthly revenues, expenses and cash flow to assure that the Agency is operating on a sound financial basis.
  • Ensuring that effective human resource management systems are in place and being implemented appropriately to mitigate risks.
  • Ensuring that there is a culture of learning which would result in high performance at all levels in the Agency.
  • Fostering a team culture that would inspire and motivate staff.
  • Ensuring that the necessary resources are provided for the optimum performance of employees.
  • Ensuring that critical positions are filled and adequate manpower is sourced.
  • Holding staff meetings to update employees on matters at regular intervals.
  • Communicating with various stakeholders, as the face and voice of the Agency, to drive its success. Ensuring that there are effective means of communication with the Board of Directors and among the staff members of the Agency. Ensuring that there are effective means of communication with the Agency’s partners, with media and with the various communities of Tobago. Representing the Agency on task forces and committees established to further the economic and social development of Tobago.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with government officials and stakeholders in the tourism sector locally, regionally and internationally.
  • Ensuring a strategic communications framework that would effectively convey the Agency’s Vision and Mission to employees, stakeholders and the public.
  • Setting the tone for the organization’s culture and values.
  • Support to the Board of Directors
  • Ensuring that members of the Board of Directors receive timely and accurate information regarding the operations and finances of the Agency on a monthly basis.
  • Consulting the Board of Directors on a regular basis regarding matters within its areas of responsibility.
  • Ensuring that Board decisions are implemented in a timely manner. Providing regular feedback/ reports to the Board of Directors and make recommendations to achieve the organisation’s goals as necessary.
  • From time to time, performs other job-related tasks assigned, beside those set out in the Job Description.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree in Management, Tourism, Business Administration or Strategic Management.
  • Training in Tourism Marketing and Product Development would be an asset.
  • Proven leadership in a similar environment would be an asset.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience.

  • Excellent Leadership and Visionary thinking.
  • Excellent at strategic planning and aligning operational goals with company objectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills tailored to various audiences.
  • Excellent with problem identification, analysis and solution implementation.
  • Intermediate knowledge of financial practices across business operations.
  • Working knowledge of Procurement practices.
  • Excellent data analysis skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of the tourism industry, trends and challenges.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
