Reports to the Managing Director

Nature & Scope:

Responsible for the planning and leadership of the daily operations of Clarence Thomas Limited. Home Center in an ongoing effort to increase store sales and profitability. Ensures management of staff assigned the Store, namely, Floor, Lumberyard, Warehouse, Purchasing and Special Orders Managers and their staff of Sales Associates. Oversees the daily workflow of the store. Schedules and assigns staff to ensure efficient operations and optimal customer experience. Responsibilities include assistance with recruitment and training of staff and conducting of performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. In addition, the Retail Hardware Store Manager handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with policy.   

Major Responsibilities, Tasks and Duties:

  1. Establishes and monitors performance standards for all store departments and Sales Associate functions.
  2. Develops and implements strategies to improve customer service, resolving any issues and complaints.
  3. Seeks and identifies methods to increase store sales and profitability; makes recommendations and/or implements changes as appropriate.
  4. Develops metrics, milestones, and goals for employees; ensures goals are met.
  5. Collaborates with corporate representatives to develop and implement budgets, sales goals, marketing strategies, and promotions.
  6. Ensures physical maintenance, safety, cleanliness, and attractiveness of all store facilities.
  7. Assesses periodic financial reports, evaluating performance against goals and implementing improvements and changes as required.
  8. Ensures that merchandise is received and stored in an efficient and economical manner; maintains required records in conformance with company policy.
  9. Tracks the flow of paperwork in the store so that all receiving, distribution, transfers, and relevant data input are accurately recorded.
  10. Reviews inventory movement and adjustments weekly; identifies issues and concerns for the management team.
  11. Monitors workflow, work completed, error rates and takes appropriate action when required; troubleshoots discrepancies.
  12. Maintains positive employee relations and morale while enforcing discipline as required.
  13. Ensures a safe working environment, ensuring that safety regulations are followed. Must ensure wearing of proper safety gear (PPE) and adhere to all safety procedures and programs.
  14. Interfaces with Department Managers and Assistant Store Managers to address issues, updates, and process improvement implementation.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in business administration, ‘management, or the equivalent
  • Five (5) years’ experience in related field.

Person Specifications:

  • Knowledge of computerized inventory and tracking system (EPICOR)
  • Knowledge of equipment safety standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
  • Exceptional customer service, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent oral, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to understand, create, and implement a budget
