The Office of Procurement Regulation (OPR) invites applications from suitably qualified professionals to apply for the contract positions of CAT Reporter II.
The CAT Reporter II is a supervisory position responsible for taking accurate verbatim notes of all hearing proceedings, sub-committee meetings and/or general meetings, in shorthand, using online stenotype machinery, and producing, on a real-time (simultaneous) basis, transcripts of such notes according to established formats. The position is also responsible for the development and maintenance of a personal computerised shorthand dictionary, the insertion of editorial corrections made to transcripts, the merging of the final report of proceedings, and the maintenance of archives of shorthand notes and final reports. The CAT Report II supervises a small team of personnel including but not limited to, the CAT Reporter I and Scopist.
Minimum Education Required
- Five (5) O’Levels/CSEC subjects inclusive of English Language.
- Certification in machine shorthand at 180 words per minute (wpm), with a minimum translation accuracy of 98%.
- Ability to use transcription software, e.g. Eclipse.
- Certification in typing at 60 wpm.
- Diploma in Business Management would be an asset.
Minimum Eexperience Required:
- 3 - 4 years’ experience as a CAT Reporter.
Responsibilities include:
Operational
Produces transcripts of meetings, hearing proceedings and other recordings
- Takes verbatim shorthand notes of Challenge and Ineligibility hearing proceedings, committee and other meetings, proceedings, conferences and seminars using a stenotype machine.
- Records proceedings in the English language, correctly identifies speakers, and inserts appropriate headings into agendas to correspond with changes as they occur.
- Obtains printed matter of quoted text to ensure accurate reproduction and verifies from reference works, proper names, Biblical, poetic and classical allusions.
- Uses computer-aided Transcription technology; transcribes notes on a real-time (simultaneous) basis; validates accuracy of spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax and eliminates unnecessary repetition - without altering the meaning or destroying the speaker’s style or oratory
Updates computerised shorthand dictionary and maintains filing system
- Develops and maintains personal computerised shorthand dictionary
- Updates and maintains a filing system for shorthand notes and final reports
People
Assigns tasks to staff, supervises and supports the Head, Administrative Review Secretariat in performance evaluations
- Participates in performance evaluations of staff; supervises and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Trains staff in writing shorthand-writing, in updating and maintaining the computerised shorthand dictionary.
- Rectifies software (e.g. Eclipse Software) problems experienced by CAT Reporter I and Scopist.
