The Brokerage Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the customs brokerage function to ensure the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of import and export entries.

Job Summary

The Brokerage Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the customs brokerage function to ensure the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of import and export entries. This role involves supervising brokerage staff, managing customs documentation and declarations, liaising with customs and regulatory authorities, and ensuring exceptional service delivery to clients. The incumbent will also provide technical guidance on tariff classification, valuation, duty calculations, and regulatory compliance, while driving team productivity and continuous process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Supervision

• Supervise the daily activities of customs brokerage staff to ensure the efficient processing of import and export entries.
• Ensure all customs declarations are accurately prepared and submitted through the relevant customs systems.
• Monitor shipments to ensure timely customs clearance and delivery.
• Review entries for tariff classification, valuation, and duty calculations prior to submission, where required.
• Resolve issues relating to customs queries, inspections, and documentation discrepancies.
• Maintain proper records, documentation, and audit trails for all shipments.
• Ensure the proper use of customs systems and internal software.
• Prepare and process customs declarations as required.

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight

• Ensure full compliance with customs regulations, trade agreements, and all applicable government requirements.
• Stay current with changes in customs laws, tariffs, and import/export regulations.
• Liaise with customs officials and other regulatory agencies to address and resolve clearance-related matters.
• Provide guidance to staff and clients on tariff classification, duty exemptions, and regulatory requirements.

Team Leadership and Development

• Supervise, train, mentor, and support customs brokerage staff.
• Allocate workload effectively and monitor team performance to ensure deadlines and service standards are met.
• Lead and motivate the team to achieve departmental goals and maintain high productivity levels.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement measures to enhance operational efficiency.

Client and Stakeholder Management

• Maintain strong relationships with clients and provide professional guidance on customs procedures.
• Respond to client queries regarding duties, taxes, regulatory requirements, and shipment status.
• Assist the sales team by providing customs advisory support for new clients and special projects.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in a similar environment.
• Customs Brokerage Certification, preferably Grade II or Grade III.
• Experience using ASYCUDA World or a similar customs processing platform.
• Prior supervisory experience is required.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong knowledge of customs procedures, tariff classification, and trade compliance.
• Proficiency in customs electronic systems, particularly ASYCUDA World.
