Automotive Counter Sales Representative
Role Overview: The Counter Sales Representative acts as the "face" of the store and the primary point of contact for retail and wholesale customers. This role is responsible for assisting customers in finding the correct automotive parts, providing technical knowledge, processing transactions, and ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales:
• Assist Customers: Greet customers immediately upon entry and assist them with their automotive needs, answering questions about parts, specifications, and pricing.
• Parts Identification: Use electronic cataloging systems (such as NAPA's proprietary TAMS system) and traditional paper catalogs to accurately identify and source parts for specific vehicle makes and models.
• Sales Execution: Suggest related parts and up-sell/cross-sell additional products (e.g., oil, fluids, accessories) to ensure the customer has everything needed to complete the job.
• Communication: Handle high-volume telephone inquiries from retail and commercial clients with professionalism and efficiency.
Operations & Inventory:
• Transaction Processing: Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system to process cash, credit, and check transactions, as well as handle customer returns and warranty exchanges.
• Inventory Management: Assist with stocking shelves, organizing displays, and conducting cycle counts. This includes checking in daily freight and processing overstock/shortage reports.
• Store Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized sales floor and counter area to ensure a safe and professional environment.
• Specialized Tasks: (Depending on location) Fabricate hydraulic hose assemblies or mix automotive paint.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience:
• Education: High School Diploma is typically required.
• Automotive Knowledge: Previous experience in the automotive aftermarket industry (dealership, repair shop, or parts store) or a strong personal knowledge of automotive mechanics is highly preferred.
• Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Licensing: A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is often required (especially if the role involves occasional backup delivery driving).
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand and walk for the entire duration of a shift.
• Ability to lift, move, and stack merchandise up to 50–60 lbs (e.g., batteries, rotors, cases of oil).
• Ability to bend, stoop, and reach to retrieve parts from low or high shelves.

Desired Skills & Competencies
• Technical Proficiency: Comfort using computer systems for parts look-up and invoicing.
• Communication: Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical customers.
• Attention to Detail: Accuracy in matching part numbers to customer requests to minimize returns.
• ASE Certification: Certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is a significant plus (specifically the P2 – Parts Specialist certification).
