Our client, a well-established organisation within the energy and retail sector, is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Assistant Accountant to support its finance operations.
Job Summary:
This role is responsible for assisting with month-end reporting, reconciliations, statutory submissions, and supervising daily accounting activities to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Prepare monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations, and financial statements.
Maintain and review reconciliations for all Balance Sheet accounts.
Ensure accurate verification of general ledger balances and resolve discrepancies.
Generate daily, weekly, and monthly management reports, including working capital and sales reports.
Prepare monthly fuel comparison reports and conduct fuel reconciliations.
Process VAT returns and related statutory reports.
Verify petty cash and cashier floats twice yearly.
Prepare customer invoices and manage Accounts Receivable billings and reconciliations.
Ensure timely collection and accurate recording of receivables.
Oversee daily bank settlements, network journals, deposits, and transactional activity.
Ensure accounting days are closed within established timelines.
Plan, organise, and supervise the daily activities of the accounts team.
Liaise with Accounts Clerks to resolve discrepancies and maintain operational efficiency.
Schedule and coordinate quarterly stock counts and prepare variance reports.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
Currently pursuing ACCA (minimum Level I completed) or equivalent professional qualification.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in bookkeeping or general accounting.
At least 2 years’ supervisory experience.
Experience in auditing and accounting functions.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Familiarity with business controls, financial processes, and reporting requirements.
Experience in a high-volume or operationally intensive environment will be an asset.
Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills with a positive, professional attitude.
