About the role

The Assistant Accountant is a role suitable to those aspiring professionals seeking to gather
experience en route to their professional qualification, providing support to the financial statement close process and financial controls. The purpose of the role is to provide support to Accountants in the financial reporting processes of the Bank. The Assistant Accountant also supports various aspects of the monthly Financial Statement Close Process and annual external audit of the Bank.

Key Accountabilities

  • Generating and issuing various reports
  • Preparation of journals of various types including accruals, charges and other transactions
  • Preparation of bank and investment reconciliations including foreign currency bank accounts
    on a monthly basis
  • Accurate and timely reconciliation of accounts which support the mutual funds for which
    ANSA Merchant Bank is the Fund Sponsor.
  • Accurate and timely preparation of various financial schedules.
  • Accurate and timely reconciliation of ad hoc accounts as requested by the Accountant
  • Accurate and timely preparation of intercompany balances and confirmation letters to
    selected Group companies as required
  • Maintain and reconcile designated trial balance accounts
  • Perform cash and confidential document safekeeping custodial duties in conformance
    with Bank Policies
  • Perform all duties in conformance with appropriate health, safety, security and
    environmental policies/ procedures.
  • Provide support to the accountants and completion of any other duties as assigned by the
    accountants.
    The Accounts Assistant is expected to embrace a culture of “Accountability” and “Ownership”.

Education & Experience

  • BSc. Accounting and or / ACCA Level II with the intention of progressing.
  • Familiarity with accounting standards relevant to the financial services sector (IFRS 7, IFRS 9, IFRS 15, IFRS 16 in particular).
  • Minimum 3 years progressive accounting experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite & Accounting.
  • Familiarity with accounting software packages e.g. SAP, Hyperion, etc.
