ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR – FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this incumbent will assist in providing timely, complete and accurate financial information on the performance of GraceKennedy (T&T) Limited, ensuring timely, complete and accurate reconciliations as reflected in the management accounts and ensuring the integrity of the accounting processes are maintained. The Accounting Supervisor will directly supervise the Accounting Clerks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Preparation of Monthly Management Accounts by the 3rd working day following month end. 
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly consolidation package and monthly accountant checklist within agreed timelines.
  • Ensure the required reconciliations are performed timely and accurately and the necessary reconciling adjustments made within the agreed timelines.
  • Assist with the year-end audit process ensuring the timely preparation of Audit Schedules and responding in a timely manner to queries raised by the auditors.
  • Coordinate activities for the General Ledger including the processing of journal entries, reconciliations and other duties.
  • Evaluate all processes performed by direct reports for improved efficiency and set-up and communicate new processes for improvement.  This includes updating policy & procedures manual annually for the respective processes.
  • Review and approve monthly reconciliations for accounts ensuring accuracy and ensuring that all reconciling items are appropriately resolved within the stipulated deadlines. These include:
      • Bank reconciliations
      • Biller Receivables and Payables
      • Western Union Receivables and Payables
      • Other Receivables
      • Other Payable and Accrual reconciliations
      • Intercompany reconciliation.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual budgets and forecasts and monitor performance against budget.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Financial Reports for presentation to the Board Meetings.
  • Performing timely, complete and accurate preparation of the following:
      • Assigned bank and intercompany reconciliations by the 4th day following a month end.
      • Maintenance of Fixed Asset register and related general ledger schedules.
  • Effective monitoring of balances in bank accounts related to the GKTT head office operations on a daily basis, including review of the preparation of the cash flow working capital schedule.
  • Effective supervision of the following areas:
      • Accounts Payable Function, including the monthly booking of provisions for accruals and processing of authorized account balance write offs.
      • Accounts Receivable Function, including timely and complete collections for cash management purposes and ensuring the accuracy of Biller Invoices.
  • Resolving satisfactorily any and all queries from all internal and external customers, including sub-agents, banks and suppliers, within 2 days of query.
  • Aiding in the preparation of statutory reports for Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, or any other regulatory body where required.
  • Assist in the development of the team by identifying training or coaching needs and work with the leadership team to close the gaps.
  • Effectively manage the team’s performance to ensure deliverables are met in a timely manner and at the desired level.
  • Performs other duties, responsibilities and activities that may be assigned from time to time as required for the effective functioning of the Department.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance and/or pursuing ACCA Level 111
  • Seven (7) or more years in Accounting and Finance with at least three (3) years at a supervisory level.
  • Familiarity with using computer-based accounting systems.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage a team to successfully achieve KPIs and other deliverables.
  • Demonstrable Advance Excel application skills
  • Strong technical skills and analytical ability
  • Strong sense of confidentiality and objectivity.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of maturity and personal initiative.
  • Adaptability to changing accounting and audit environments and requirements.
