Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join the Sagicor Foundation team in the capacity of:
Accounting Officer (Contract)
Application and monitoring of key internal controls to safeguard the Company’s assets and the assets of its stakeholders.
Applying appropriate accounting policies and procedures, while ensuring that all financial transactions are recorded and that the financial statements and ledgers reflect the true financial condition of the Sagicor Foundation.
Preparation of analyses and reconciliations pertaining to all applicable sub-ledgers.
Location: Kingston
As an Accounting Officer, you will:
- Assist the Finance Manager in maintaining an accurate general ledger for the Sagicor Foundation – specifically, the Sigma Run Charity event.
- Ensure monthly financial statements are prepared and the TB updated.
- Analyse, reconcile, and monitor the various general ledger accounts ensuring timely clearing of balances and prepare the relevant schedules and submit for review monthly.
- Prepare and post journal entries with requisite support as required to ensure complete recording of transactions to the general ledger.
- Liaise with the Sigma Secretariat and support teams to ensure items are cleared from reconciliation.
- Perform detailed review of transactions and prepare journal entries.
- Ensure journals for all reconciliations are posted.
- Perform processes to ensure that sub-ledger results are appropriately incorporated into the general ledger.
- Assist the Financial Analyst for the Sagicor Foundation in performing certain reporting functions such as preparing year-end financial statements, monthly and quarterly reports to Management and Board and reports for year-end financial statements.
- Follow-up with donors, sponsors and registrants who have outstanding payments for the Sagicor Sigma Run.
- Perform other related duties assigned from time to time.
What do you need?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or other related discipline from a recognized tertiary institution or the successful completion of the ACCA levels I and II qualification.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ working experience in the accounting field at the clerical or supervisory level.
- Experience in a Bank, Life Insurance Company or Financial Institution would be an asset.
- Knowledge in the preparation of routine IFRS compliant financial statements.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and tax laws.
- Proficiency with software used by the entity to record financial transactions.
- High proficiency in the use of computer software packages including spreadsheet and word processing applications
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Excellent communication and time management skills.
- High level of motivation and excellent organizational skills.
- Strong analytical, conceptual thinking, and problem-solving skills.
