We're hiring a Jr. Accountant

Our client is a fast growing accounting firm in Kingston Jamaica, on their behalf, we are hiring a Junior Accountant, who will analyse complex financial records, reports and prepare and administer client and internal payroll. You will regulate and authenticate financial transactions. You maintain a ledger for clients to ensure effectiveness and accuracy of all accounting data. It is your job to balance accounts and confirm and verify bank statements on behalf of the clients. You will need experience using electronic ledger systems.

You should have sound analytical skills and advanced skills using Microsoft Excel. Additionally, you will need a thorough knowledge of accounting procedures, including preparing month-end reports and financial forecasts.

 Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Maintains financial records for clients by analyzing source documents and general ledger accounts and entering data into accounting system.
  • Reconciles bank accounts by gathering and balancing information.
  • Provides financial status information by preparing special reports, completing special projects.
  • Corrects errors by posting adjusting journal entries.
  • Maintains general ledger accounts by reconciling accounts receivable detail and control accounts; adjusting entries for amortizations prepaids; analyzing and reconciling retainage and accounts payable ledgers.
  • Maintains fixed asset schedule.
  • Preparing management account.
  • Secures financial information by completing database backups, keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains accounting controls by following policies and procedures, complying with local financial legal requirements.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
  • ccomplishes accounting and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Assist with tax compliance filings (GCT, statutory deductions, income tax, etc.).


Payroll duties:

  • Prepare and process payroll for all supported companies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Support the provision of P24, P45, and other pay and pension information to clients.
  • Submit monthly S01 reports to meet statutory requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Submit annual S02 reports to meet statutory requirements and ensure compliance.
  • Assist in testing and implementing system changes related to payroll processing.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the team's objectives and targets.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify opportunities for cross-selling payroll-related services to clients.
  • Undertake any additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Skills & Qualification
Qualifications

  • Degree in accounting with 1-3 years’ experience in bookkeeping/management accounting; OR
  • High School diploma (with accounting) and at least 5years experience in bookkeeping/management accounting.
  • Familiarity with current technologies, like desktop sharing and cloud services.
  • Experience with accounting software (such as quickbooks, Xero)

  • Proficient with excel spreadsheets for recording/analysing data
  • Excellent problem-solving skills detailed and quality focused.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
