Job Title: Accounting Assistant

Location: Port of Spain / Maraval

Reports To: Accounting Manager /Finance Director

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Assistant to support our finance department. The successful candidate will assist with a variety of accounting and administrative tasks, including data entry, account reconciliations, invoice processing, and financial reporting. This role is ideal for someone with strong organizational skills, a basic understanding of accounting principles, and a desire to grow within the field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in daily accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Prepare and enter journal entries.
  • Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Process invoices, expense reports, and purchase orders.
  • Assist with payroll preparation and tax filings, as needed.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • File and organize accounting documents physically and electronically.
  • Communicate with vendors, clients, and internal departments to resolve discrepancies.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports and audits.

Requirements:

  • ACCA Level 1 or an Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Xero).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
