Job Title: Accounting Assistant I

Location: Port of Spain

Employment Type:  Contract 

Salary: $7,124.47 

Position Summary

The Accounting Assistant is responsible for performing routine and repetitive clerical accounting and bookkeeping duties following established procedures.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Provide prompt and quality customer service, demonstrating professionalism, courtesy, and initiative.
  2. Effectively serve both internal and external customers.
  3. Ensure the smooth operation of the Cashiers unit during lunch relief and other necessary periods.
  4. Reconcile named accounts.
  5. Reconcile Death & Maturity claims while updating APL & Loan register and miscellaneous suspense register.
  6. Reconcile the outstanding Disbursement register.
  7. Prepare cheques.
  8. Allocate funds received for manual payments.
  9. Print, batch, sort cheques, and obtain signatories.
  10. Sort, stamp, and distribute all mail received for the department.
  11. File cash summaries, copies of cheques, and deposit slips.
  12. Maintain journals and CRF vouchers.

  • Internal: Executives, managers, and staff from other departments

Education & Training Requirements

  • 5 O’Levels including Mathematics, English, and Accounts
  • 3 A-Levels
  • CAT or ACCA Level 1
  • LOMA 280 and 281, ACS 100 & ACS 101
Training:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience or any equivalent
