We're hiring an Accountant
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join our dynamic team in the construction industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, including payroll processing, tax compliance, and the preparation of accurate financial statements. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, construction project costing, and government regulations, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Maintain and update the general ledger and chart of accounts.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, suppliers, and other accounts.
Analyze financial data and provide insights to support business decision-making.
Track project costs, monitor budgets, and report on financial performance of construction projects.
Process payroll for all employees, including site workers, supervisors, and administrative staff.
Ensure accurate calculation of wages, deductions, overtime, and statutory payments.
Prepare and file payroll tax returns (e.g., PAYE, NIS, NHF, NHT, Education Tax).
Ensure timely remittance of all payroll-related statutory obligations.
Prepare and file GCT returns, Income Tax, and other relevant tax filings in compliance with local tax regulations.
Coordinate with external auditors and tax authorities when necessary.
Stay current with changes in tax laws and government regulations affecting the construction industry.
Manage accounts payable and ensure timely payments to vendors and subcontractors.
Generate invoices and monitor accounts receivable collections.
Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies promptly.
Assist in developing annual budgets and cash flow forecasts.
Monitor expenditures against budget and alert management to variances.
Provide financial projections for upcoming projects and company growth.
Maintain proper filing of financial records and supporting documentation.
Liaise with banks, auditors, insurance companies, and other stakeholders.
Assist in implementing and maintaining internal controls and accounting systems.
Provide financial support for tender preparation and bidding processes.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
ACCA Level 2 or higher / CPA / other professional certification (an asset).
Minimum 3–5 years’ accounting experience, preferably in the construction or project-based industry.
Demonstrated experience with payroll processing and tax filing in accordance with Jamaican (or relevant local) regulations.
Strong knowledge of accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Peachtree, Sage) and Microsoft Excel.
Familiarity with project costing, job costing, and budget tracking.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
