JOB TITLE: ACCOUNTANT

REPORTS TO: AGENCY GENERAL MANAGER
JOB PURPOSE
The job holder is responsible for managing the Company's financial affairs and ensuring that the integrity and accuracy of Financial Reports and Accounting records conform to Generally Accepted Accounting Practices and Statutory requirements.
The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining an effective Internal Control System and ensuring adherence to these controls.
The accountant will also be responsible for reviewing the financial proposals associated with loan applications, providing guidance to BDOs before loans are escalated for approval.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Ensure that proper and accurate accounting records are maintained for the Company in accordance with the relevant Accounting Standards.
- Prepare and submit timely and accurate Monthly Management Accounts.
- Liaise with the Company’s bankers to ensure that the Company’s requirements are met promptly.
- Manage the Company’s cash flow.
- Ensure that the Company is compliant with all Statutory and tax-related requirements.
- Liaise with the appointed Finance personnel as needed.
- Coordinate and manage the annual financial audit with the Auditors.
- Collaborate with AGM to develop annual budgets and conduct variance analysis against actual results.
- Periodically review the internal control system to ensure its adequacy and monitor operations to ensure strict adherence to established controls.
- Ensure that the Company’s assets are adequately insured against all insurable risks.
- Be fully acquainted with the Accounting Software (CUMME) used by the Company and periodically support the training of staff to become proficient users of the same.
- Collaborate with AGM and SBDO to review loan applications for escalation to the relevant Committee.
- Work with BDOs to manage collection of instalments, identify unallocated payments and reduce delinquency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that all financial transactions for the month are posted to the General Ledger and the General Ledger is closed by the 5th working day of the next month.
- Prepare Monthly Management Reports (inclusive of P&L, BS, Cash Flows, bank reconciliations, loan delinquencies, and variance analysis) for the General Manager’s approval and presentation to the Board by the 8th of the next month.
- Ensure that fixed asset records are maintained in the Fixed Asset Register in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or International Accounting Standards (IAS).
- Work with relevant authority to prepare the Company’s Annual Budget and corresponding reports for approval by the Board of Directors.
- Prepare a six-month rolling cash flow forecast.
- Prepare the annual Financial Statements, inclusive of all Notes, and following the relevant Accounting Standards and the Company’s Accounting Policies, within one month after the Financial Year closes.
- Manage the annual external audit of the Company’s Financial Statements within the required time frames.
- Preparation and payment of the Monthly payroll.
- Preparation and payment of all Statutory payments within the stipulated deadline dates.
- Preparation and filing of the Company’s Income Tax Returns.
- Maintain the General Ledger Chart of Accounts and ensure it accurately reflects the current activities of the Company, facilitating the accurate recording and analysis of information.
- Coordinate the Company’s annual insurance renewals.
- Preparation and filing of requirements for Non-Profit Organisations.
- Provide support to the Company’s Corporate Secretary as required.
- Collaborate with the Agency General Manager to identify and recommend process improvements.
- Collaborate with AGM and SBDO to review loan applications for escalation to the F&C Committee.
- Collaborate with SBDO and BDOs to ensure that client payments are in order. Ensure that instances of unallocated payments are solved and that delinquency is continually reduced.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
- The incumbent will operate independently and is required to be a self-starter.
- The incumbent will be expected to prioritize the workload to ensure the achievement of all deliverables within the agreed-upon timelines.
- The incumbent will liaise with and recommend solutions to the Agency General Manager for non-routine matters that may arise from time to time.
- The person may be required to work extended hours to meet critical deliverables.

The jobholder will be guided by the Statutory requirements of Trinidad and Tobago, applicable Accounting Standards, the Company’s policies and Procedures, as well as the Company’s code of ethics.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- At least Level 2 ACCA or equivalent.
- Knowledge and experience with International Accounting Standards and local statutory and other tax regulations.
- Minimum of five (5) years accounting experience in a computerized environment, with at least three (3) years of which should have been in a supervisory capacity and producing financial reports.
- Familiarity with GAAP, IFRS, and local statutory and taxation requirements.
- Experience with CUMME will be an asset.
