SCOPE OF POSITION
Under the supervision of the Quality Manager, the incumbent is responsible for assisting in the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with ISO 15189:2022, the requirements of the Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC) Global, national and regional regulations.
The role supports the Quality Department in ensuring that laboratory services are delivered in a consistent, reliable, and compliant manner, safeguarding the quality of patient results and overall laboratory operations.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 15189:2022 and other international standard requirements such as ISO 15190:2020.
- Report to the Quality Manager on the performance, effectiveness, and compliance status of the Quality Management System.
- Coordinate and promote staff awareness of quality policies, procedures, and departmental requirements.
- Support document control processes, including the preparation, review, distribution, and archiving of controlled documents.
- Assist in the coordination and execution of internal audits and follow-up of corrective actions.
- Participate in the identification, documentation, and monitoring of nonconformities, and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Assist in maintaining quality records, quality indicators, and preparation of reports for management review.
- Support External Quality Assessment (EQA) / Proficiency Testing (PT) activities and follow-up on performance.
- Promote risk-based thinking by assisting in the identification and mitigation of risks within laboratory processes.
- Provide administrative and operational support to the Quality Manager and Deputy Quality Manager to ensure effective functioning of the Quality Department.
- Perform other duties relating to daily quality activities of the laboratory.
- Carry out any other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science or related discipline from an accredited institution.
- At least one (1) to two (2) years’ professional experience in a medical laboratory environment, preferably with exposure to quality management systems or quality control programmes in a healthcare facility/ setting.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Knowledge of ISO 15189:2022 standards and laboratory accreditation requirements.
- Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques, procedures, and quality control practices.
- Demonstrate professional conduct and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge and commitment to implement the quality assurance policy of the Caledonia Medical Laboratory Limited.
- Understanding of quality management principles, including internal audits, document control, and corrective actions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional conduct.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the laboratory’s quality assurance policies and objectives.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Registration by the Council of professions Supplementary of Medicine is an asset.
- Training in Quality Management Systems and internal auditing is an asset.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional and ethical standards at all times.
