Senior Assistant Accountant
Marathon Insurance Brokers Limited (MIB) invites applications for the role of Senior Assistant Accountant within the Accounting Department.
Reporting Relationship
- Reports to (solid line): Senior Accountant (OIC) – MIB
- Reports to (dotted line): the Group Financial Accountant (GFA) – for reporting timetables, pack standards, and group requests
Role Summary
The Senior Assistant Accountant supports daily and month-end accounting operations through disciplined execution of reconciliations, treasury reporting outputs, fixed asset recordkeeping, and audit-ready scheduling. The role is central to ensuring that exceptions are surfaced early (including unapplied cash / unidentified credits) and escalated properly to prevent customer payment misallocations and cancellations. Work closely with IT to ensure online platform and BI graphical interface reconcile with back-end accounting system EPIC
Key Responsibilities
Treasury / cash-control reporting (prepared for review)
- Prepare weekly and monthly treasury and cash-control reports (cash position, forecasts, liquidity metrics) for review by the Senior Accountant (OIC), aligned with group reporting requirements via the Group Financial Accountant (GFA).
- Maintain an exceptions log for cash-control issues (late deposits, unidentified credits, recurring reconciling items) and escalate aged items.
Bank reconciliations (execution + escalation)
- Prepare assigned monthly bank reconciliations and reconciliation packs across assigned accounts, including schedules of reconciling items and supporting evidence.
- Escalate overdue reconciliations and unresolved reconciling items to the Senior Accountant (OIC) and, where applicable, to the Group Financial Accountant (GFA) for group visibility.
Fixed assets and schedules
- Maintain the fixed asset register and supporting schedules; prepare depreciation support and ensure asset documentation is current and audit-ready.
Month-end close support
- Prepare assigned month-end schedules (accruals support, prepayments, journals support, payables reconciliations where assigned).
- Support preparation of monthly reporting packs and ensure documentation is complete, consistent, and filed electronically.
Audit readiness
- Support internal/external audits through timely production of schedules, reconciliations, and evidence packs; track audit queries assigned and ensure close-out documentation is retained.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum upper 2nd BSc degree in Accounting
- Professional qualification (ACCA/CPA/CA) or actively pursuing (preferred).
- Minimum three (3) years experience in accounting operations, with strong reconciliations exposure (bank/payables).
- Strong Excel skills; able to work in a paperless/electronic documentation environment with clear audit trails.
