VACANCY NOTICE
TECHNICAL OFFICER I - IT TECHNICIAN/SPECIALIST
Applicants are invited from suitably qualified nationals of CARICOM and Associated Member States for the post of Technical Officer I – IT Technician/Specialist at the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), Husbands, St. James, Barbados. The CIMH is a regional tertiary level training, research and development Institution that is affiliated with the University of the West Indies.
DUTIES
Duties include support for but are not limited to:
- Management of a heterogeneous Linux environment (OpenSUSE, Red Hat, Ubuntu and Debian)
- Management of a heterogeneous Microsoft Windows environment
- Management and maintenance of CISCO switches and routers.
- Management of Linux firewall environment
- Network management including management of a computational Linux cluster
- Experiences in deploying and managing virtualized servers
- Basic script development to automate computational and network processes
- Database and Web server management
- Experience with multimedia and A/V equipment
- Maintenance and upgrade of computer resources and networks
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will be required to have a B.Sc. Degree in IT and/or Computer Science with at least 7 years’ experience working in a related field.
Candidates with an Associate Degree in IT and Computer Science and 10 years working experience OR Degrees in Mathematics, Physics and Electronics with professional skills in IT and Computer Science along with 7 years working experience are encouraged to apply.

◦ Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate
- Excellent knowledge of Linux environments.
- Sound knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware, VirtualBox and Docker.
- Knowledge of best practices in managing, controlling and securing network
- Knowledge of backup and recovery software and methodologies.
- Knowledge and experience in Beowulf clusters or similar
