ICU MANAGER
Accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, patient-centered care—both direct and indirect—within the ICU department, while maintaining professional responsibility for all WSM staff involved in care provision.

Summary of Key Result Areas and Main Duties
Leadership
- Creates and conveys the mission and vision of ICU services with the assistance of the management team.
- Ensure all ICU Personnel are aware of WSM Vision and Mission.
- Conveys to ICU personnel the strategic plans and goals of the organization to maintain a customer focused environment.
- Coordinates, facilitates and manages change within the ICU department and the Hospital.
- Reviews and introduces new and existing policies to all staff.
- Facilitate on-going educational updates within the department.
- Coaches and mentors, all staff to align them with the organizational goals.
Management
- Ensures that ICU staff provide safe and effective patient-centered care within the ICU.
- Assists ICU staff in evaluating practices and creating strategies for further improvement.
- Ensures that all customer complaints are addressed in a timely manner and provides updates to Director of Nursing.
- Ensures all reports are sent to Director of Nursing and the appropriate departments.
- Ensure that all staff off-duty entries are accurately recorded in MICROPAY by the Friday preceding the upcoming week.
Human Resource Management
- Ensure staffing levels and management coverage is appropriate to meet the needs of the business and maximize customer experience.
- Assists with the creation of job descriptions for all direct reports and ensure they are periodically updated.
- Assist with the on-boarding process of interviewing, hiring, and orienting quality candidates.
- Prepares work schedules and assigns work.
- Ensures an ongoing performance management approach is conducted (update staff and provide ongoing feedback on their performance before the actual performance appraisal due date).
- Conducts performance appraisals and provides constructive feedback to ICU staff
- Provides guidance and support to ICU staff.
- Trains staff and ensure educational resources are available.
- Works with all direct reports to create individual action plans for continuous improvement of the ICU Department.
- Leads disciplinary action when necessary. This includes fully understanding the disciplinary process to ensure it is administered fairly and in accordance with the law and Hospital’s policies and procedures.
- Responsible for effective and timely implementation of all company rollouts and initiatives.
Operational
- Troubleshooting issues related to coordinating the rotation of doctors.
- Assesses the quality of patient care delivered and coordinates patient care services with patients, staff, physicians, and other departments.
- Verifies departmental compliance with organizational policies and procedures and regulatory standards.
- Ensures that appropriate personnel, equipment and supplies are available.
- Acts as patients advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information.
- Provides input into development and maintenance of business plans, including budgets.
Education requirements
- Nursing RN Certification or a Bachelor’s degree in desired field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in ICU.
- ICU Certificate.
Experience, Special Knowledge and Training
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Trinidad & Tobago.
- Minimum of 5 years varied and progressive perioperative services experience or perioperative nursing management experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Computer skills- Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Knowledge of medical equipment- understanding of operation and troubleshooting abilities.
- Extensive clinical knowledge and experience relevant to ICU.

- Ability to troubleshoot and manage difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
- Strong administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations.
- Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to details and maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

- Physically demanding, high-stress environment.
- Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
