Our client in the Oil & Gas Sector is seeking to onboard Laboratory Technicians (Contract)
Department: Offsite & Measurement (Laboratory)
Location: Couva
Contract Duration: Up to 2 Years
Work Schedule: 12-hour shift rotation (Days/Nights, Weekends & Public Holidays)
Job Summary
The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting sampling, testing, and analysis of natural gas, NGL, LPG, and related hydrocarbon streams to support plant operations and external clients. The role involves both field and laboratory work, ensuring compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards, QA/QC protocols, and company safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Sampling & Field Activities
- Perform sampling of feed, product, and intermediate streams across plant, dock, and offsite locations
- Collect samples at ground and elevated locations (including working at heights)
- Handle hydrocarbon-based sample matrices including natural gas, LPG, NGL, condensate, and natural gasoline
Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Conduct testing and analysis using ASTM and GPA methods
- Operate laboratory and field analytical equipment
- Interpret and validate analytical data
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and client reports
- Maintain accurate shift logs and laboratory records
- Compile data in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 Quality Management System
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate and monitor:
- Laboratory instruments
- Field analyzers
- Composite samplers
- Moisture analyzers
- Perform minor troubleshooting and preventive maintenance
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 standards
- Follow all SOPs, work instructions, and QA/QC procedures
- Support audits and quality documentation requirements
Operational Support
- Assist with laboratory procedures and work instruction development
- Support CAPEX projects through sampling and testing
- Conduct routine checks and readings for laboratory systems
Education & Experience Requirements
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in:
- Sampling
- Laboratory testing and analysis
- Equipment maintenance
- Technical reporting
- Minimum qualification:
- Technician Diploma in Laboratory/Quality discipline
Assets:
- B.Sc. in Chemistry
- Chemical Engineering Diploma (UTT)
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017
Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of:
- ASTM test methods (e.g., D6667, D1945, D2597)
- GPA standards (e.g., GPA 2140, 2166, 2199)
- Experience with:
- Sample preparation and handling
- Data interpretation and reporting
- Laboratory instrumentation and analyzers
Training Requirements
- Mandatory 6–8 week training program
- Includes practical and theoretical assessments
- Minimum pass mark: 80%
- Training covers:
- Sampling points and schedules
- Equipment operation
- Safety systems and procedures
Health, Safety & Compliance Requirements
- Adherence to all HSE policies and procedures
- Must be:
- Medically fit to wear respirators
- Compliant with facial hair policy
- Mandatory:
- Drug testing every 3 months
- Annual safety orientation
- PLEA certification (biennial)
Working Conditions
