PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
• Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers.
• Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, events, etc.
• Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
• Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, high-speed buffers, vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
• Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
• Lock and unlock assigned spaces: secure buildings when facilities are not in use check for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, and turn off lights.
• Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
• Perform cleaning and related activities such as removing debris from sidewalks and stairs in areas within sixteen feet of buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: (Education, Experience, Skills)

• Proven experience as a janitor, custodian, or in a similar role preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining high energy and productivity.
• Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the janitorial cleaning industry.
• Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and stand for extended periods.
• Requires ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Regular exposure to cleaning chemicals and possibly hazardous materials.
