Occupational Health Clinic – New Yarmouth Estate
Position Summary
The Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) delivers and coordinates occupational health services and contributes to the rollout of health initiatives for employees. This role also involves helping to design and implement wellness programs that foster both physical and mental well-being in the workplace. Reporting directly to the Company’s Health and Welfare Manager, the incumbent will be based at the New Yarmouth Estate (NYE) and have responsibility for the administration of all aspects of patient care and day to day operation of the occupational health clinic at NYE.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
The incumbent will be performing the following activities:
- Administer immediate medical care and first aid to employees who are injured or become ill at work
- Supervise nursing services provided by the Health Clinic, including supporting employees returning from medical leave
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for employees, ensuring compliance with privacy laws
- Coordinate, schedule and conduct periodic medical examinations for employees
- Conduct health assessments and screenings to identify potential health risks and hazards in the workplace
- Counsel and advise employees on health and psychosocial issues, guiding them in the effective use of health and wellness resources
- Collaborate with external healthcare providers and specialists to ensure employees receive appropriate medical care and treatment
- Perform stock-taking and reorder drugs and supplies as needed, ensuring safe storage, rotation, and disposal
- Inspect plant sites and canteen regularly to identify health-related factors affecting the work environment and recommend corrective actions.
- Check the ambulance daily to confirm it is fully stocked and operational and report any issues to General Services to ensure its availability at all times
- Serve as a member of the organization’s health and safety committee
- Assist with organizing and conduct training sessions, health education programs, and wellness fairs for employees and emergency response teams
Required Education, Competence and Experience
- Registered Nurse (RN) designation from a reputable institution
- BSc degree in Nursing
- Three (3) years’ experience in general nursing with at least 2 years’ of occupational health nursing experience
- Possession of a valid Basic Life Support Certificate
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with employees, management, and external stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Good research, documentation and records keeping skills
- Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive medical information with discretion
- Ability to interview and counsel employees, particularly in regard to health and wellness issues
- Ability to provide provisional diagnosis and make decisions in emergencies
- Thorough Knowledge of emergency response and first aid procedures
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite applications
- Must keep up to date with current nursing practices and ethical codes
