The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the accurate recording of transactions, act in a supervisory role to other
staff members of the department and provide accurate and timely reporting of information to internal and external
customers.
The incumbent will perform tasks such as general ledger account analysis and reconciliations, reviewing and processing journal entries,
intercompany billings, and preparation of monthly financial statements:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements according to stipulated guidelines for submission to Senior management and Head Office.
- Assist with preparation of Alco and board reports for submission to relevant committees.
- Prepare and review journal entries to the GL on a monthly basis.
- Analyze the underlying transactions of relevant expense accounts, reconcile these accounts to the GL and prepare the relevant schedules and submit for review on a monthly basis.
- Prepare and review bank reconciliations and suspense/clearing account analysis.
- Prepare subledger recon for products including investments, loans and equity.
- Ensure timely submission of all statutory and regulatory requirements, including the preparation and submission of weekly, monthly and quarterly reports to the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE).
- Review and post Accounts Payable invoices.
- Assist with timely completion of internal and external audits.
- Assist with the annual budgeting exercise.
- Assist with the filing and timely payment of all tax returns including GCT, payroll taxes, asset tax, Income tax and withholding tax.
REQUISITE COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
- Sound analytical, problem solving and investigative skill
- Sound knowledge of computerized accounting and spreadsheet packages
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial reports
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written format
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Sound negotiation and persuasion skills
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
- Knowledge and use of office productivity tools (MS Office, etc.)
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/ Management Studies or equivalent
- Accounting Designation; ACCA level III
- Minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in a similar capacity;
- Experience in financial services industry will be an advantage;
- In depth knowledge of financial reporting systems
