Job Overview: The Safety Officer will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring Liat Air’s safety management systems to ensure compliance with aviation regulations and industry best practices. This role is critical in safeguarding operational integrity, minimizing risks, and promoting a strong safety culture across the airline.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain Liat Air’s Safety Management System (SMS) in compliance with ICAO and regional aviation authority requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments of flight operations, ground handling, and maintenance activities.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor compliance with aviation safety regulations, company policies, and international standards.
- Identify hazards and propose mitigation strategies to reduce operational risks.
- Provide training and awareness programs for staff on safety procedures, emergency response, and reporting protocols.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, industry bodies, and internal departments to ensure alignment with safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate safety records, documentation, and reports for management and regulatory review.
- Support emergency preparedness planning and participate in emergency response exercises.
- Continuously monitor industry trends, regulatory updates, and best practices to enhance Liat Air’s safety framework.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Safety Management, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in aviation safety, operations, or regulatory compliance.
- Strong knowledge of ICAO standards, regional aviation regulations, and SMS frameworks.
- Proven experience in conducting audits, investigations, and risk assessments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across departments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
